So outside of a tournament which was admitted by the guy who made it to be set up to make Andre Ward look good, who he beat? Who he beat legitimately in matches that weren't cherry picked for him or given to him with hometown judging?
I just want to hear one top guy he actually beat. What top knockout guy did he actually beat (legitimately) in his prime? Or what about speed? Did he beat one guy with elite speed? What about defense? Did he beat one prime defensive specialist?
He hasn't beaten anyone man. Most overhyped boxer of the decade. He won his gold medal and ever since then, both HBO and Showtime have been falling over themselves trying to hype and market him as the next star, and many casual fans believed it, but Ward simply hasn't lived up to it. He hasn't delivered what they hoped when they promoted him. He's just not that good. At least, he's still unproven vs. the top guys. The only one he fought is Kovalev and Kovalev gassed after 4 rounds and still beat Ward. So that's either an old Kovalev or maybe Hillary slipped something in his drink to get revenge on *****, who knows, Kovalev said he overtrained, but the point is that's the only fight we've seen Ward face a top guy with his own tools to actually fight back against a fast guy, unlike every other Ward opponent, and Ward lost even though Kovalev wasn't at his best.
So until Ward proves he can actually beat a top guy once, I won't consider him on that level. And if he wants HOF, he needs to actually beat a few top guys. For him to say he's accomplished everything in the sport, when in reality he still hasn't accomplished ANYTHING as a pro in terms of the actual sporting competition at the elite level, and not just fake belts... in the SPORT you accomplish things at the very top level by beating top guys, and in that respect, you truly can say Ward has still not accomplished anything. He's still green, he's still unproven.
I know that sounds weird to read, because it goes against what we have been sold by Showtime and HBO for the better part of the last decade, and it seems like Ward has been around forever because he's utilized the dishonest Floyd tactic that Stephen Breadman exposed in his mailbag where he takes ages between fights to remain "undefeated" for a prolonged period of time, but it's the truth. Ward is still an unproven professional at the top level, and unproven guys should never be in the HOF. If he's so good, he should actually fight a couple different elite guys back to back, different styles, guys his size, like Kovalev, Beterbiev, Stevenson, and then he will have proved it if he performs well. But avoiding the best his whole career outside Kovalev and then retiring with less than 40 fights? That's no HOF career not even close.Last edited by Boxing Logic; 01-04-2017, 07:05 PM.
