  • He should of fought Antonio Margarito as his comeback fight, after he disappeared after his Oscar De La Hoya win? if my memory serves me correctly.......

Floyd Mayweather should of fought Antonio Margarito before Shane Mosley did! Margarito at that point in his career had a aura of bad intentions surrounding him! it would of been a great win for Mayweather....

Antonio Margarito was this great fighter that had a 1-fight prime (beating Cotto) and then his next fight - against Shane Mosley - was immediately over the hill. Oh and did I mention he cheated using illegal handwraps?

Beating this clown cheat bolsters noone's resume

all were world champions and prime with 3 being undefeated and on the p4p list
One of the things that was always funny to me is how people blame Floyd individually for not fighting prime Mosley, DLH, Cotto, and Pac. In all of those scenarios both fighters were involved in holding the fight up.

Mosley said he had to go to the dentist during his "prime" to fix his tooth in a post-fight interview and couldn't fight Floyd.

DLH always ignored Floyd until he didn't.

Cotto and Arum sat ringside during the Brusels and Gatti fight and basically opted against fighting Floyd at the time. Promotional issues ensued (Floyd wouldn't work with TR after buying out of his contract) and then Cotto lost a couple of times

Pac was afraid of needles and giving blood weakened him. We're also still waiting for that outdoor stadium to be built by Bob Arum.

The only fights I wish Floyd would've taken was PWill (147) and Tszyu (140). Every other fight he took was a good fight. Floyd lacks the statement win in his resume, but that is only because he didn't have an equally great opponent during his career at his weight class. Obv. Mosley, DLH, Cotto, and Pac are all great fighters and HOF'ers, but I don't consider any of them truly special. Snippets of those fighters were special, prime DLH, Pac at 135 and below, pre-Margs Cotto, etc...but each guy really faded in my mind. Pac has only 2-3 wins worth considering following his leap to 147 and he did all of this by avoiding PED tests for years. Not even his Bacne could help him vs Floyd. Prime DLH beats Floyd, but that is DLH's fault for letting himself slide as much as he did and **** the bed when he held ALL the cards in their mega-fight. DLH controlled the weight, the gloves Floyd fought with, and the size of the ring. DLH **** the bed in that one. Cotto's trainer not identifying plaster wraps was the ultimately the undoing of Cotto. Sad story :/

Bob Arum did all he could he make sure that fight didn't happen.

He was busy building him up as the "most feared man in boxing".

          • I can overlook most things. The one that annoys me is the catchweight stuff. There's too many weightclasses as it is without these morons making their own.

You can't be annoyed with anybody as long as you have that coward as your Avi

How many catchweights did he make?

Any way you slice if...Floyd is 10xs the fighter Slappy Joe.

              • In between Hatton and JMM he missed out on (@WW)...

                Prime Paul Williams
Prime Pac (from 2009 - 2012 would have been the peak for this fight, but anything post ODLH is better than the version he did fight),
                Prime Cotto
                Prime Margarito

Thats four names that really enhance his resume IMO.

I think he missed a trick not fighting Cotto for a MW title. As i think its winnable for him even at that weight. Historically it would have been a big achievement, even if the context would have lowered its standing.

Also any sort of extended run at 154 would have been great, though it could have featured a loss or two.

If you think his resume stacks up to the top dogs in the P4P all time lists (top 10), then i think you need to do more research on them and their opponents.

                • Plus f!oyd a lot of times fought people when they showed weakness. He didn't fight much and had a lot if tgime to see hatton have bad performances againbst collazo, and waited for SSM to fight nelo before he'd anticipate doing it.

He was cautious and noit trailblazer.
He reactive rather than pro active

Antonio Margarito for a short period of time was probably the most feared man in boxing, that traumatic look on Miguel Cotto's face during their first fight! must of been embedded in other fighters minds......

Miguel Cotto was always a very cold and unemotional fighter (He was like some kind of Puerto Rican terminator!) but that night up against Antonio Margarito his will was broken, something inside of him as a man was taken! and it was not just down to the shady hand wraps.

Stylistically i think Mayweather vs Margarito would of been the same kind of fight! with Mayweather being able to pull it off over 12 brutal rounds.

Miguel Cotto deserved major credit for psychologically and emotionally facing Margarito again during the rematch! it must of been like a victim of a abusive crime, facing their predator once again.

His resume is impressive regardless but on paper it's ridiculous.

In 20 years time the new fans will look back and see that Mayweather was 5 weight champion, 4 of which Lineal, beat 10 fighters ranked #1 in the divison being fought in and beat 7 fighters ranked in the Top 10 P4P, 20 odd world champions beaten.

Like I said, on paper it's a recipe to get overrated.

But obviously Floyd is one of the ATG's anyway.
I can only imagine how mad these guys will be when that happens (it will) if they're this mad now.
