Comments Thread For: WBA Orders Zeuge vs. Ekpo, Denies Paul Smith Request

Paul Smith could have his third shot at a world title scrapped. The Liverpool super-middleweight, who has fought for global honours twice and been in the ring with pound-for-pound star Andre Ward, was last in action last September, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office.

respect to the WBA, Paul Smith is D-Level at best, too risky for him to fight the top guys

Anyone see this guy vs Steiglitz? I don't remember that fight and he's not faced anyone else I've heard of. Boxrec says #165 in the world.

To be fair there is more deserving fighters than both these two. At least ekpo has strung a few wins together. Expect Zeuge to keep his title for a while fighting nobodies on awful German cards.

Good, there are very few boxers less deserving of a world title shot than Paul Smith, who has fought nothing but bums since getting absolutely smashed to pieces by Andre Ward and also utterly spanked by Abraham. He should at least attempt to earn a title shot if that's what he wants, but we all know he's British level at best.

I don't know what the WBA are thinking, Smith has fought three 6 rounders since the Ward defeat against opponents with a combined record of 63-51-5, that is surely world title challenger material to me. Smith's lack of desire to actually fight someone decent to earn a shot for a world title is pretty embarrassing, Hearn should not be encouraging this nonsense just because the Sauerlands want soft touches for their champions..

Smith has no business fighting for a title, but Ekpo has beaten nobody and was nearly shut out by a mediocre paper beltholder Stieglitz three years ago. Pathetic that WBA ranks him so highly. Sauerland is going to feed Zeuge first Smith and then Ekpo this year to keep him away from legitimate opposition
