Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Coach on Rematch: We're Ready, Ball is in Ward's Court!

John David Jackson, trainer of Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs), says his boxer is ready to fight Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) in a rematch as soon as possible. Last November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ward got off the floor in the second round to win a close twelve round unanimous decision over Kovalev to capture the WBA, WBO, IBF light heavyweight world titles. All three judges scored it 114-114.

Hard for me to take Jackson serious after observing the way Kov treats him. I won't believe anything coming from that camp unless it comes from Kov directly......

Neither camp has said money was an issue but it APPEARS that NSB writers are going to push that idea on the simpleton fans. By the end of the month there will be threads saying Ward priced himself out of the rematch with not one single bit of evidence.

Actually Ward did say it, in addition to hinting at it a million times but I guess when you don't like what the obvious hints are saying, you just ignore them and pretend it needs to be spelled out?

Luckily for you, it was spelled out. In Ward's FS1 interview, they bring up how he wants more money now that he's the "champ," and Ward said something like "it's not just that, but of course it is that," and so on. Right in this video he says it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v51bcPnKcMc&t=153s

So Ward himself has said it's about money... stop blaming NSB writers for that.

He never said or alluded to wanting MORE money. He said that money is "a lot of what 'I' was talking about" regarding his statement of the "right deal". Sure the splits are set, but if neither promoter puts up enough money for the rematch, then neither fighter should want the fight right now. Sure...it makes for good media to say Ward wants more money, but until what you call an obvious hint...becomes a more direct quote or reality, the MORE money narrative is premature at best. In the words of Aaron Rodgers...R-E-L-A-X.
