Because he had a fight that was mandated by the governing body (leaving Golovkin's only out as having to pay Billy Joe Saunders' asking price), and he walked into the fight with the full understanding that there was money backing him too (Yormack, with the Barclays Center, and Stephen Espinoza weren't going to leave Jacobs hanging).

nothing wrong with knowing your value

I hate this fighting twice a year stuff.
Daniel Jacobs had a price in his mind for what he wanted to take the fight, and he and his camp seemed to have the makings of getting Jacobs that money were they forced to front the costs themselves.

With that knowledge, there was no reason for Jacobs to worry about much of the talks.

By mid-September 2016, the fight was already mandated; not Jacobs' fault that Golovkin's camp waited to December 15th to finally pay the money.

When Pirog fought Jacobs he walked him down and cut him off every time he got close to the ropes jabbing and constantly keeping punches in his face. Are GGG an Pirog identical fighters? No. But they both fight with that basic German style with their own twists. One thing I know for sure is that Jacobs will be having flashbacks on Pirog when in with GGG

It's going to be so funny when Jacob's feels the first bit of GGG's power and knee's out a few rounds later.

"Put up or shut up"... I have been liking everything that Jacobs has been saying since the fight has been made. He has been giving GGG ample respect while not selling himself short as a quality challenger. He knows that he will be fighting an uphill battle but is ready and willing to take it on. He's owning up to his perspective of things (whether it looks good or bad) and adding a little hype to the fight with his interviews. This with his story makes it hard for me not to root for the guy. He seems like a real good dude.

Jacobs will get his beating soon enough, at least his Christmas wasn't spoiled then.

Pirog was far slicker than Golovkin has ever even dreamed of being; bending at the waist, catching shots on the shoulder, switching stances, fighting largely from an open shell, etc.

"Mexican style" Golovkin fights nothing like that, even when slightly compelled to box when he thought Lemieux was coming in with bombs.

the delay hinged around meeting Jacobs requirements

FACT: Jacobs requirements were eventually met

so, Team Golovkin are responsible for the delay..... as they could have met Jacobs requirements a lot sooner instead of playing hardball

no big deal, at least the fight got made eventually
