Frampton winning Fighter of the Year is very disputable. Frampton-Santa Cruz was a very close bout. I had it 114-114. Since this writer has no problem taking that win into account, then Ward beating Kovalev in a close contest trumps everything Frampton has done this year. And Frampton didn't exactly dazzle against Quigg either.
Also we should not forget that Frampton left the super bantamweight divison without facing the man. That ducking was shameful and that's a big minus for me. Fights against Quigg and LSC were certainly good business moves, therefore Businessman of the Year might be a more appropriate award. Unlike Frampton, Crawford and Ward -two potential winners- actually had the stones to fight their biggest challenges. Ducking pays dividends I guess.
Having Frampton as Fighter of the Year is not scandalous, but implying that he's some sort of consensus Fighter of the Year is just wrong.
And last but not least, not having Crawford in the honorable mention is mind-boggling. Became lineal champion and has three dominant wins including one against the best opponent he could have fought.
