Comments Thread For: Marquez: Canelo Beating Golovkin Will Erase Any Doubts on Him

Mexican veteran Juan Manuel Marquez is hoping that his countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) goes through the most sought after fight in boxing by taking on IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) next September, during Mexican Independence Day weekend.

I have my doubts. People will always try to discredit certain fighters. "Waited for him to get old" is the first one that comes to mind.

Beating GGG would make Canelo a star on the level of Chavez when he beat Taylor.

Marquez is right on this one. The biggest knock is that Canelo's career has been carefully matched. I think Canelo is a decent fighter I favor him to beat Chavez Jr and Saunders (if they fight). To me personally Triple G is good and entertaining to watch but I don't think he can beat Canelo. I think Triple G wants to cash out he's 35 and the clock is ticking on his career whereas Canelo is still young. But time will tell I'm interested to see how 2017 plays out.

Canelo wont even fight IBF Charlo Brother. He barely beat Lara. Canelo wont even fight Lemiux. Canelo is not a great boxer, all he has is weight Advantage and wont do great vs a boxer with skills. For example a boxer with the skills of Crawford or Lomachenko, u know what happend against Feather fisted Mayweather.

No one credible will say that, Golovkin is still prime as a fighter for one, and two he has to look notably old before the fight takes place for that to be a valid excuse. What happens after the fact doesn't.

Depends on how he beats GGG. Canelo could lose 8 rounds to 4 but be gifted a 10 round majority decision. Hopefully judges will never come into play with CorruptBoy at the reins.

Chavez beating Mayweather were some good scraps too.

Thats a big IF.. and I really dont think he beats GGG unless corrupt judges give Canelo the nod..
