Every knowledgeable insider, except the fighter himself AFT, who kept saying that if he wasn't ready for Kov now he never would be. Remember him saying that? Of course you do, it was on these boards...

I remember saying that I would prefer for Ward to have 1-2 more tuneups before facing Kovalev..... but if Ward thinks that he is ready now, then so be it.....

and the reason why I said that is, because Ward may have had little/no choice..... he likely had to take the Kovalev fight without any further delay due to pressure from ME/HBO/RN/the public/etc..... I think his clock was ticking

you could be getting confused by my comment that 'Ward has been ready for Kovalev for years'..... but that comment is referring to Kovalev's level, and the fact that Ward has seen it all before..... that was not referring to his preparation for 175

as I have said many times recently..... Ward will be sharper/stronger with those 12 hard rounds under his belt, and after 1 more specialist 175 camp with Mackie Shilstone

That aside, I think Kov, especially in the second half, saw about the best, AT LEAST the typical, Andre Ward, and those 12 rounds in his bank will give him enough to get the job done in better fashion next time. That was straight up typical Andre in the second half, and I'd say Kov drew about even. Kovalev has more room to grow in the rematch.

I think that Ward will be sharper and stronger..... and I'm not sure if Kovalev can do anything different in the rematch..... it is highly unlikely that he will start off with a KD, and Ward will probably show him different looks/tricks in the rematch

kovalev coach trying to say ward too small but he was working your larger stronger guy on the inside on the second half of the fight while your guy was getting tired.... yeah size isnt an issue. kov connected very clean the first half, cause ward hadnt even fought a B level opponent in 5 years, once he got his timing back he won the second half and his body work paid off and wore down kov, he wins the rematch clearly but kov does deserve the chance since he won the first fight.

i like both guys , didnt pull for either.
Kov won the first fight, i mentioned his tactic for stopping the headbutts.
ward will not win a rematch with the same gameplan. he needs to land some shots , rights, and be cleaner with body punching as well. he will not have the same judges and referee.
Ward landed some good jabs, but not many, and barely any right hands upstairs. Ward needs to be more productive offensively, no pitty pats while holding to the body.
and Kov needs to be more productive on the inside, not allow Ward to smother and hold him. these guys fight 50 times all 50 will be close.
