Kovalev was the one holding in the past fight and fighting in and out of the clinch has always been part of the sport of boxing, from the days of Ali all the way to Mike Tyson but people are mad now because they dont like Andre Ward.

when you have a guy like Ward or Hopkins who have a history of coming in and under and up with their head it is YOUR technique to wrap them up asap and keep their head low...

thats how we are taught and train for guys like that.

I had ward losing the fight but I think he wins for sure in the rematch. I think his ring rust bit his ass the first half of the fight but he recovered and got into the groove. I dont see kovalev doing better in a rematch although its warranted and should happen. I was hoping it would be a draw just because kovalev did way better than i expected and that way we could have a rematch to give a legit W to the right guy. ward getting a lame win when he was surprised as chit he actually got the nod and then talking trash all the time is lame as hell.

kovalev coach trying to say ward too small but he was working your larger stronger guy on the inside on the second half of the fight while your guy was getting tired.... yeah size isnt an issue. kov connected very clean the first half, cause ward hadnt even fought a B level opponent in 5 years, once he got his timing back he won the second half and his body work paid off and wore down kov, he wins the rematch clearly but kov does deserve the chance since he won the first fight.

There is usually some truth and some non truth in most statements. I wouldn't say Ward can't or won't improve, but at this stage, his game is set, and there won't be very many changes. Kovalev could stand to fix some holes in his game if he wants to truly dominate the rematch, even though he had a lot of success in the fight. He did some great counter punching... but he just needs to do more. He needs to improve his stamina, and I think I read somewhere he'll have a strength and conditioning coach FNO.

That would be great for him, a good professional needs a team of specialists around him these days, not just one man who does it all. If Kovalev can improve his stamina and become even more powerfull Ward is in big trouble.

Ward can work a crisp sharp Jab to frustrate and limit kov when he tries to come in or cut off the ring. Ward didn't display a top notch Jab that night I think because he didn't want kov to time it. If ward can get it down he can embarrass kov in a rematch
