Like I said, there are cherries the size of watermelons waiting for Canelo in the UK. He'll sell out stadiums if he ever fights there. Fat chance. He'll take a little less to pick them in Texas.

I was interested in the fight a few years ago at 168 but he already got TKOed by Fonfara. It's nothing more than a cash grab at this point.

But I guess if GGG is fighting 4 times a year and Canelo fight isn't happening until Sept 2017, I wouldn't mind them fighting in like June if GGG can't get BJS.

i found this, from an article dated May 12, 2014...

"We had agreed to terms with Top Rank a while ago and made many concessions to make the fight with Chavez happen," Loeffler told ESPN.com. "It has now dragged out much longer for Chavez to agree to the fight. While we would still like to make the fight, we are pursuing other plans under our HBO multi-fight [contract] to have GGG back on HBO in July."

Golovkin, who was willing to move up in weight, signed for the 12-round super middleweight fight weeks ago, but Chavez and Top Rank have been going back and forth, unable to come to terms. Arum said Chavez's contract with Top Rank expires in October 2015 and one of the central issues in the negotiation for the Golovkin fight was Top Rank's desire to have him sign an extension, but Chavez did not want to.

"While the Chavez fight remains the fight that we would want the most, we cannot risk GGG not fighting in July," he said. "I know Bob has worked very hard to try close the deal with Chavez because it is a great fight with a huge interest from media and fans. There will definitely be upside for both fighters on the pay-per-view. We made concessions, such as coming up to the full weight limit of 168, and other financial concessions to make this fight happen. There is enough money on the table for all sides to benefit financially."

yes, I have read similar articles.....

but they also mentioned 168 when talking to the press about Ward/Froch, and yet now it is public knowledge that they demanded Ward at 164 and Froch at 166

why would Chavez say this..... ?

" Golovkin also does not want to go up to 168..... he didn't want to go up to 168 when I challenged him "

It looks to me like they wanted to fight Chavez at catchweight, just like Ward/Froch.

well, it looks to me that golovkin signed a contract for 168 and chavez didnt. but i'll disregard that since you and chavez said so. you win. carry on.
