Seems to be the issue back then was 'ol Bob. Arum threw his contract extension negotiations with Chavez into the mix and Chavez wasn't on board with it, so it all fell apart once Arum and Chavez went to war on the issue.

So, now we're back at the same talks as 2014, but without Arum involved. Its not clear who Chavez is with right now, he maintains it would be Haymon for a fight in the US, so this time would be another Loeffler-Haymon negotiation ?

In 2014 the fight was all-but-signed at 168 - just needed JCC Jr's pawmark, so not sure why Chavez would suggest GGG wouldn't fight him at 168.

Anyway, this is the obvious solution (GGG/Chavez). Both getting low-balled with fixed offers from GBP - make their own fight instead.

Only thing I can think that gets in the way is GGG previously stating he wanted to fight in Khazakstan in May/June, but pretty sure that could take a back seat if a Chavez fight was on the table. Could also mean Canelo/Saunders being far more likely. All good.

(but GGG v Ramirez in May would be even better......)

Why is it to many Trip fans that Loeffler is incapable of lying but everyone else is?

I kind of feel bad for Chavez Jr. He's had to live in the shadow of his father, one of the greatest in the game. That kind of pressure could screw with his head a bit. Either way I guess he's trying to get on the Golovkin food chain in case there's no deal with Alvarez. Good luck.

there weren't contracts for the ward and froch fights so the discussed weights for those fights arent relevant here. i have more trust in an article stating that golovkin signed the contract for 168 when the fight was actually being negotiated than chavez saying something 2 and a half years later about a fight he didnt sign for and a fight that isn't currently being negotiated. if the weight was an issue back then and chavez didnt want to fight at the "catchweight", why is it only being mentioned now?

I get what you're saying. In boxing I've learned that what gets said before, during, and after failed negotiations isn't always the truth when the truth comes out. Why would a promoter say anything that would paint his fighter or promotion in a negative light. In this case, what reason does Junior have to lie? He has a built in excuse regarding the Top Rank extension.

All the articles and statements about the proposed fight back in 2014, whether from Loeffler or Arum, all clearly refer to an agreed weight of 168. Even discussions about a proposed 1 million penalty if Chavez DIDN'T meet 168.

I don't see any basis for saying GGG wouldn't agree to 168 when the contract on the table that Team GGG agreed to was clearly at 168.

The issue was Chavez not signing as Arum offered him two deals, one without a contract extension with Top Rank (lower money), and one with a contract extension with Top Rank (higher money). Chavez wanted the higher money without the extension, so couldn't get to an agreement with Top Rank and the fight fell apart.

Weight was never an issue (except concern Chavez might not make the 168).

Chavez Jr cant make more money than what Canelo offers. Trips doesnt sell PPV'S, Canelo vs Chavez Jr does around 500k and the gate at Cowboy Stadium will be humongous. but not a good place for Oscar to be, lol
Cotto will probably beat Kirkland, then Its Cotto vs Canelo II, or Saunders, hell even a business fight vs Margacheato, or lemeiux or rosado (they were good enough for GGG to fight...)

I have read the articles quoting Arum where he references 168. I understand your perspective.
