Chavez has little leverage in this. If the offer that has been reported is true, 5mil then that is more then he can make fighting ANYBODY else. Sr using the logic that they need to pay him more because Chavez Jr made this much in the past hold no weight. this is what Jr is worth now. Things have changed since he was a Top Rank undefeated fighter. His biggest payday in recent years was 2.5m against Fonfara in a fight he lost in embarrassing manner where he quit. That fight was supposed to be a tune up before he got a big fight. Instead he lost hurting his brand needed 2 more fights where he was paid less and his last fight neither Haymon or Showtime were willing to pay him so he fought on Bein Espanol Sports for maybe less then 1m.
GGG and Jacobs are both likely splitting 5m combined and Jacobs needed to hold out just to get that. No chance GGG will offer him 5m. He backed out a title fight with Jack where he wasn't offered 5m. Enough time has passed to see that him jumping ship to Haymon was a failure. Not only has his paydays dropped from what he used to make from Top Rank he took an epic azz whooping from Fonfara that killed his earning potential. Arum is a snake and you don't get paid unless you re-up your contract. But just look at the money he was offered to fight GGG. He turned that down out of spite because Haymon was whispering in his ears and promising big money and he fell for it. Wasted a full year trying to get out his contract with Arum, got peanuts to fight Fonfara lost. And now PBC has run out of money and can't even afford to pay him got him fighting no named bums in Mexico and begging Golden Boy for a payday.Comment
