Hope Cotto ends his career against Lara. And hopefully, but highly unlikey he wins then retires...

Crying? F-ck off you idiot, he was just asking a simple question. This is the entire reason for a boxing forum - share information, ask questions, talk boxing etc.
Do us all a favour - get your hate, stick it up your arse and **** off outta here.Comment

Why cite to articles that are secondary sources for an unverified "reported" offer. (Not to mention, neither of those "sources" you posted come from a credible news outlet)http://www.vibe.com/2015/01/adrien-b...-sports-offer/

and that's just from a quick search on Google; $40m for 5 years (a period that could easily constitute 15-17 fights) and you've got an even better deal than initially thought (especially with Broner being one of the guys that folks seemed to think would be able to help carry boxing's starpower going forward).

I highly doubt Cotto got $40 million from Roc Nation for exclusively boxing. From what I know, the Cotto deal is more expansive than simply boxing; there is some entertainment/philanthropic component of the agreement that is focused in PR. I am not sure what its true value was; not a single fan on this site would as it is not public info.
The only number we can be certain of in terms of what a fighter takes home from a promoter, is the publicly disclosed purse; everything else is just speculation.Last edited by Butch.McRae; 12-21-2016, 05:51 PM.Comment

$40m over 5 years, comes to $8m per year; Broner fights 3 times a year and you're looking at $2.7m a fight being the breakeven.
Whether Broner had designs on cashing checks as big as Floyd was cashing (ambition aside, Broner was close enough to the type of work that Floyd had to put in that I'd imagine he'd tempered his ambitions), I'm pretty certain that he believe that, if he kept doing what he was supposed to be doing, he'd be cashing checks bigger than $3m/$4m per fight in the near future. Broner chose to bet on himself, and whether that bet pays off is still to be seen.
Showtime paid $250m for what amounted to 30 months and 6 PPV fights with Floyd, and made out like gangbusters at the end of the day (not to mention all of the other fight cards in the "Mayweather Sweepstakes" to build up possible Mayweather opponents).
$125m from the Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV (discounting the share taken by HBO), $75m from Mayweather-Alvarez, $35m on Mayweather-Maidana II, $35m on Mayweather-Maidana, $30m on Mayweather-Guerrero, and $15m on Mayweather-Berto (the career capper).
On the hook for $250m, had what ended up being 6 PPV fights to cover the costs, and ended up making $315m on the deal, based on the numbers put out.
A nice little return on laying out your money for 3 years, imoComment

This is a pretty good breakdown, but I think people also forget that Roc Nation is a full service artist/athlete representation company (and a record/publishing label for platinum selling artists). Those figures probably have endorsement/appearance money tied in as well; none of us can know for sure. (It's all probably performance/valuation based anyway)Comment

That's unclear, tbh.
The Daniel Geale fight, the coming Kirkland fight, and the Alvarez fight all did massive business at the live gate. HBO paid out a pretty penny to get their hands on the Geale fight. And that's before considering the other possible revenues (international Tv interest, sponsorships for the fight, etc).
Cotto-Alvarez ended up likely clearing $30m on HBOPPV, with Cotto/Roc Nation taking the lion's share of that (though the split was likely near 60/40 Cotto anyway).
people like to focus on single events, but over the course of the deal with Cotto, it would not shock me to find out that Roc Nation will likely have made $40m on Cotto's fights.
Andre Ward has signed a longterm deal with Roc Nation, has already fought 4 fights with Roc Nation (3 fights at Oracle Arena that have done solid gates, with two of those fights being backed by HBO TV money), and the last fight saw them collecting a check allegedly for $5m to have Andre Ward fight Sergey Kovalev on a Main Events fight card.
With three 175lb belts around his waist (and the seeming perception that a significant portion of the folks that showed up at T-Mobile Arena did so to see Andre Ward), Andre Ward/Roc Nation Sports are positioned to do rather well going forward.
For the folks willing to invest money and deal with the risk (PBC, Roc Nation), things seem to pay off in the long-run if the talent proves to be there.Comment

Cotto-Alvarez cleared $30m on HBOPPV, with MGM Resorts paying over $15m to host the fight. Without hearing about any of the other revenues that came in on the fight, Roc Nation Sports was likely able to easily clear $20m off of that single Cotto fight.looking back it was a pretty ****** deal. overpaid like crazy for Cotto. Great for Cotto he got paid more then anyone else was gonna pay him but RNS likely lost money on everyone of his fights INCLUDING the Canelo fight. A significant amount of his purse were paid not by Golden Boy or HBO. He got the fighter split based on the deal Golden Boy/HBO made and then got 5-10m on top of that directly out of the pocket of RNS so they basically promoted that fight for free or at a slight loss.
You add the money from staging Cotto-Geale at Barclays Center, and the likely payout from staging Cotto-Kirkland with Jerry Jones, and I'm fairly certain that RNS has likely broken near even on the deal.
Roc Nation Sports was looking to build their boxing business, have basically decided to build their business around Miguel Cotto and Andre Ward (with serious money at risk, but both guys seemingly proving to being worth the risk), and are hinging their future on one of their younger prospects breaking through to bring some extra revenue to the table (with Maurice Hooker, Dusty Harrison-Hernandez, and Luis Arias seemingly the next three up).
If Andre Ward wins the rematch, Roc Nation has a TV free agent who should be able to deliver another 5-9 fights in his prime before having to deal with physical slippage (where he'd still likely have another 8-10 fights in him, if he were to still want to fight).
Ward can fight in Las Vegas, Ward can fight in Brooklyn, and Ward can fight out of Oakland and do good business.Comment

Unverified or not, there's a marked difference between talking about 5 fights and 5 years of fights; whatever the actual offer was, it was far more longterm than the critique I was answering would suggest. Why cite to articles that are secondary sources for an unverified "reported" offer. The Cotto deal involves far more than boxing; rather than talks of simply signing a fighter; Roc Nation Sports and Miguel Cotto Promotions formed a partnership, where Roc Nation would co-promote 3 fights of Miguel Cotto with Miguel Cotto Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions would end up co-promoting shows (seemingly largely music concerts) with Roc Nation Sports in Puerto Rico.
Though there is a lot of information that isn't available, there's enough out there for one to figure that the deal has worked out better for Roc Nation than folks want to admit.Comment

Here is Broner's quote ho "It is what it is, because at the end of the day, I felt disrespected,” he said. “If you’re gonna come to me and tell me that I’m gonna fight two times a year, getting $8 million a year for five years straight? You got me ****ed up.” 4 million a fight ho. More than triple he gets nowadays and more than double he got back then ho. Take a picture trickComment
