Not true at all. In Ward's case the amount he would get was already negotiated prior to the fight. That's why there was a rematch clause. Kovalev was a champ and both Ward's and Kovey's purses were already set in the event Ward won and Kovey exercised his rematch option.

yeah but after taxes and paying his manager/trainer he actually owes the government money. thats why he wants 10 million for the next fight. that way he can walk away with 20 dollars.
