The problem is the media saying he's p4p #1 doesn't pay the purses. The fans ultimately decide. That's fine by showing how popular you are - how big of a draw a fighter is, how much money they can bring in. These little weight classes historically don't bring in a lot of money. In recent times the biggest money maker was nonito donaire and he was at 118-122 pounds, with a ton of buzz after his KO of Darchinyan and capitalizing off the Filipino Pacquiao craze at the time. Likewise, Lomachenko has earned $1 million recently and he's at 126 now. Gonzalez fighting from 105 to 112, it's pretty small and he's probably tapped out where he is, maybe he can go a little higher but he's 5'3, he doesn't have the height or body frame to go any higher realistically.

Roman, his last four fights in a row, have been on Golovkin undercards. It's a good strategy to get him US exposure. But he really hasn't took that next step in stardom, there still isn't a lot of buzz around him and if there was, he would be headlining his own shows in the US by now. The fact that they are still wanting to piggyback off the Golovkin-Jacobs PPV tells us where his handlers believe he's at and it's not making $1 million dollars alone as a headliner.

This is the unfortunate reality of the very small weight classes. We also see this far up north, at cruiserweight, where guys sandwiched between Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight aren't bringing in tons of money z not have they ever really historically. Same deal for the lower weight classes - they simply do not bring in the same amounts of money as the other weight classes. There are exceptions of course but Roman doesn't seem to be it.
I agree with that but times have changed a bit we have went from an era where the heavyweights were easily the big dawg leagues to all the way down nearly 100lbs to Floyd Mayweather headling and being the face of boxing.
There is hope for Roman very slim no pun intended but what is lacking down at those division is a charismatic character where you come from sadly does dictate what is attainable sad because RG really should be headlining fights every time he fights but I won't complain seeing him co-maining on a GGG undercard.

I'm certain they will meet his demands to make this one happen its far too big of a PPV event to not give the man a few extra hundred grand not like he is asking for several million.

Surely he'd just be better fighting Inoue then lol, he'd likely get way more than 1 million for taking that massive fight on in Japan.

Really don't get why this Cuadras fight needs to happen next.

You are the 6th post in. Might wanna give it a chance first. And for the record, chocolate boy is acting like a little ho. He was given a gift decision and now wants a bazillion dollars for a rematch. He should be thankful people even want to see him.

        • If he is not signed to any promoter, there's no reason why he can't explore other ways to make more. Sadly, the division he's in doesn't attract a lot of fans. In any case, he should try other networks like Showtime.

          • I think Gonzalez should fight Inoue before the Cuadras rematch. He took a lot of punsihment in that fight and needs to be 100% to beat Inoue.

If he wants $1 mil his best bet is to try and get the Cuadras rematch as the semi main of the GGG/Canelo fight or the Canelo/Chavez jr. fight, if either happens this year.

Only downside is both cards will have a heavy Mexican fanbase in attendance that will be cheering for Cuadras.

it was the same in Japan, the crowd was not on his side, but since he kept beating worthy opponents, he is now Prime time in Japan..
