I'm not of a big fan of "Oscar the Promoter," but I have to admit that this is absolutely brilliant! Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. on Cinco de Mayo Weekend? LIT! If this deal gets done, GGG might as well sign for the $10 million for September! The PPV numbers for Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. will be at least 500K, and if Canelo wins, he will have all the leverage. Not only that, if Oscar and Haymon can squash their beef for this fight, then Charlo won't be far away. Canelo vs. Charlo (a Houston native) in Minute Maid Park, will be off the hook:

    May 10, 2015:

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions was pleased with the event he put on last night at Minute Maid Park in Houston, and took the opportunity to throw another swipe toward last weekend's maligned Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

"Canelo vs Kirkland on May 9 was the real Cinco de Mayo weekend fight that fans wanted," De La Hoya said after the three-round war/blowout. "We promised them a war, we promised them action, and that is exactly what they got with this fight..."

The attendance in Houston spoke to the huge popularity of Alvarez, with an official number of 31,588 in the house to watch the first-ever boxing event at the home of the Houston Astros.

Gennady's ball washers need to make him sign. 154-168 just kidding....go down to a lower weight for a big fight...just kidding. Mexican style, he wont sign to fight a Mexican, he was just kidding.
We know now that he ducked Ward, which was a good call. Ward would put him to sleep. Now he's ducking Canelo or is it, every other fighter doing what he's doing, considered ducking...Ward stepped up in Weight and fought the undefeated Champion, g is calling up fighters from smaller weight classes, a retired Welterweight, a Junior Middleweight, while he's trying to fight a cancer survivor.....cant make this sh|t up.
They want 40% LMFAO!!! Mr. 97K PPV buys and can't even make PROFIT off a fight with Jacobs above $5 million.

$10,000,000 could BUY the Jacobs/GGG fight AND the REMATCH if they wanted to.

I used to want to see the GGG/Canelo fight but after GGG pricing himself out of it and his fans cool with watching ALL his 101 mismatches I hope GB doesn't give him a DIME! USE that $$$$$ instead on Jacobs, Andrade, Charlo Bros., Maybe Thurman or Spence when they move up.

Let GGG continue on his path of BUM Destruction. As long as they put a body in the ring 3-4x a year his fans are HAPPY.

Big PPV numbers only give leverage if it looks like that they can be repeated in future fights. Canelo/Chavez would be 2 high profile Mexicans fighting on a Mexican hoiliday. It will probably sell well to Mexican Americans on HBO PPV, but who is there for Canelo to repeat those numbers with? Can he drain Zurdo Ramirez down to 165 for his next Mexican holiday date?

Maybe Andy Ruiz Jnr or Chris Arreola will hit the fat farm for him?

US Boxing 21st century style, where fans ********** over $$$$$ they won't see a cent of instead of wanting to see the best fight the best.

Jermall Charlo is there! That fight will sell very nicely in Houston, and it will do better than any GGG PPV. I can see Jerry Jones wanting a piece of that too! I think it's in GGG's best interest to take the $10 million, and lock down that date for September 2017! Another strategy for K2 is to get that fight with Zurdo Ramirez and take his title! It won't be as good (financially) as Canelo vs. Chavez Jr., but it would make a bigger statement by becoming the WBO Super Middleweight Champion!

                The ballad of Canelo Alvarez
                • Golovkin? Uhm. I'm the A-Side. I fight at my weight. No fight otherwise!
                • I'm no middleweight!
                • The belt I won? Uhm.. I don't need it. Yeah! It means nothing to me! Yeah!
                • I'll go win another belt.. against some no name.. the WBO version.. cool. Who's that guy btw? He's so dreamy.
                • *after getting disrespected by everyone* I'm not afraid of Golovkin, I'll fight him at 160! But I want to keep all the money.. either he'll be an idiot and accept it or he'll say no and I wont have to fight him. I'm so smart!
                • Chavez? He's still alive? I'll fight him! OH, you meah his washed up son? He just fought? Who did he fight? Britsch? Let me boxrec him. Hm.. even boxrec is having issues recognizing him. Found him. Oh man that guy sucks. Wow.
                • Ooh I can fight Junior for money! I likey! easy money. But just to be safe.. get a good catchweight there too. Just in case, so he can't move after 3rd round. Let's make it 165 and call it SuperCaneloWeight. I'm gonna change the sport with my divisions...

There is no way to "lock down" a date date so far ahead of time, in an unpredictable sport like boxing.

Look at what happened with Kovalev and Ward. They were only doing easy tune-up fights before fighting each other, so no real danger of either of them losing. But the actual date and venue was still being argued 2 months out, and Duva was flapping because she thought it wasn't going to happen, because it turned out they still hadn't yet signed contracts with each other.

What do you suggest GGG do? What is his Plan B, if he can't ever fight Canelo?
