Comments Thread For: Khurtsidze's Trainer: We Hope Saunders Don't Chicken Out

So what became of middleweight Avantil 'Suicide' Khurtsidze, who after bursting the bubble of the undefeated Antoine Douglas on March 5th hasn't been seen in the ring since?

Avtandil would be a handful even for the best version of Saunders, but the Billy Joe we saw in his last outing would end up looking like roadkill. Part of me really hopes this one gets made even though it'd probably mean the WBO strap being removed from the unification discussion.

This would be a tune-up fight for BJS, he'd easily beat someone like this come on man this guy has fought nobody good!
BJS wont be shiet like he was in his return fight, I want them to force Njikam or someone like that as BJS mandatory.

Dunno what to say man. Khurtsidze beat Khomitsky (helluva scrap that one you might want to youtube it) and went close as hell with N'Dam. Either of those two (the 2010 version of Khomitsky that is) would be a handful for Saunders and I think N'Dam could potentially beat him. And that's the good version of Saunders.

Don't get me wrong man, I really rate Billy Joe and hope he gets back on track, but he's not that far ahead of the pack that some of these guys couldn't beat him on the right day. Boxrec ain't really gonna give you the full story here, there's some tough, tough guys out there who just never really got the breaks.

How much leeway does BJS have? Can he choose anyone ranked in top 10 to make mandatory? Does it have to be Khurt? Is it the WBO decision?

Saunders' promoter can request someone different, then up to WBO whether they accept the request or not. The alternative requested would have to meet the vague WBO requirement of being an acceptable opponent, but doesn't necessarily have to come from their own rankings.

BJ said he didn't want GGG after looking like **** so he'll go after a couple of tough fights first to prepare. This looks like a good start. Plus it will free him up because he will have got rid of his mandatory.

                  Lets do this.

As long as you are good and tough but do not bring anything such as a belt or money to the table you are not likely to get any breaks in this business unless you are lucky.
                    Sad but true.
Too many good fighters who are waiting for that break.
Felix Diaz is a good example.
