I think so. I'm talking about the overuse of "casual" as an insult when you disagree with somebody's opinion. Disagree with my opinion, guess what...you must be a "casual".
Is "Casual" the most overused word in boxing?

What's funny about admitting that I'm a casual fan? I joined here to find out more about the sport I enjoy. I'm not sure which kind of world you live in where that is something to be ashamed of?
No one is a die hard fan over night. And in my group of friends not many care for boxing so I have to find out about it myself.Comment

More misused than overused.
A true casual fan doesn't understand rankings, weight classes, scoring, technique, strategy or any aspects of the sport. They just watch a fight or two a year with the expectations of seeing a Rocky movie. That doesn't apply to anyone on this site as we try and watch every fight.
To me it's funny to use it as an insult because people get so angry about it

Dude, I'm waaaaay more casual than you. I just accidentally wandered on to the site while I was looking for my German Goo Girls and never looked back. I know less about boxing than Selma Huyuks pinkie finger, but I do like using long words so it looks like I'm really clever and these ****** boxing fans are the only ones thick enough to fall for it.Comment

Not at all. There are only a few real hardcores and the rest are casuals. It is not hard to spot a casual boxing fan and i see alot here. Nothing wrong with it btw.Comment

I think the OP may be referring to the way some folk (who clearly consider themselves hardcore) use the term dismissively to imply that arguments they disagree with are not worthy of consideration. It's a both arrogant and presumptuous in my book, not to mention a bit cheap, but there's so much BS that flies around here I can see where it comes from.Comment

It's overused on here. Posters call eachother casuals if you disagree with them, or if you prefer a different style than they do.
It's used as a put down, but often is thrown out when the user has no where else to go, or anything else in their locker to say.
I don't think anyone on here is a casual. They know fighters home and abroad, then know their histories ect.
I tend to think of casuals as the guys who tune in for the big fights (or not even big fights, just fights featuring popular fighters).
For example, almost everyone i knew was watching the Joshua fight last week, they all were talking about Haye Vs Bellew, yet none of them watched Kova-Ward / Loma-Walters, or even know who those 4 guys are.
There are a lot of new MMA casuals who tune in for McGregor but not the other UFC/MMA cards.
If you're new to the sport and are on here learning, or a guy on here talking fights while watching a shitty quality stream at a silly time in the day/night, then you're not a casual.
That said, there's nothing wrong with being a casual really. I'm sure there are sports out there that lots of us are casual fans of.Last edited by Chrismart; 12-15-2016, 09:02 AM.Comment
