It's all about building a base. In 2013, when Showtime was putting on shows 2-3 times a month, they had shows with over a million viewers. Now they 9 months off of boxing and show a card every once in a while, they can't crack half a million.

This is more of a reflection on how Al Haymon based fighters are marketed compared to HBO fighters.
Meaning more casuals know about Crawford than the hardcore fans who know Mares, Charlo, Cuellar, and Williams.
Showtime puts on a better matched fights yet marketing a certain fighter hasn't done them justice.

I remember when Mayweather first left HBO. One of the HBO execs did an interview pretty much saying that HBO had the platform to build another boxing superstar. He then went on to name the list of stars before Mayweather and how HBO built them

People tune in for names. Just like GGG can get 1 million viewers fighting a can while good competitive fights like Saturday between a bunch of guys no casual could pick from a lineup gets 370k...
HBO is not in the competitive fights business anymore, they're all about building stars and getting people knowing who they are...once in a great while they make these stars fight competitive match ups
