If DiBella Entertainment controls the event, they get to set the terms to give Daniel Jacobs the best chance possible; fight finances are fight finance, but don't doubt for a moment that DiBella would stage the fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and don't doubt for a moment that Stephen Espinoza is going to dig into the budget to properly market the fight (a bout that's likely going to PPV) or title the inetrnational TV rights towards the broadcasters that he already does business with.

If Jacobs' camp wasn't in position to put forward a competitive bid for the fight, K2 would've already forced the purse bid.

The scope is different, but Oscar De la Hoya digging into his pocket and putting up the money to secure N'Dam-Lemieux for Lemieux (Lemieux was the 7th/8th challenger while N'Dam was #1) basically won Lemieux his IBF title [with Golden Boy in control, the fight was staged in Montreal, the ref was from Montreal, the three judges were Canadian, and Golden Boy was apparently able to cut down the ring 2'-3' on each side down to a 17'x17'].

I sincerely don't get why folks like you see it as an impossibility, lol

If Haymon planned on taking control by winning the purse bid, then why did he allow the purse bid to be delayed in the first place? He could've simply ordered an immediate purse bid like he did with Stevenson/Kovalev.

Why they've taken this long is stupid. GGG cost himself a December fight trying to get Jacobs to come to terms. Let Danny go back to fighting **** fights in Reading, PA where nobody shows up and nobody watches on tv.

Because, in the Stevenson/Kovalev example, Stevenson was the champion making his defense, hence why his camp were able to call the shot.

The challenger rarely ever gets to call the shot, and that's made even less likely due to the extra deference that the WBA seems to accord to their champion.

Hopefully, the fight gets made, so we can see how ready they are. Few things:
1) It's possible for Haymon to pull a Stevenson/Kovalev. Let it go to purse bid with full intnentions on winning it (I know they have to give GGG 75%), but that would essentially cancel the fight and be of no consequence.
2) Was Jacobs ready months ago or not? An obvious inconsistency there.
3) If the fight doesn't happen, there are still competitive options for Jacobs (Lee, Lemieux, BJS, Canelo, etc.). Those fighters are more likely to face Jacobs than GGG. This fight not happening hurts GGG a little more in my opinion...

Beyond that, they've already tried to get fights against Lee, Billy Joe Saunders, and a few of the other names, and those fights fell through; imagine how much tougher it'll be when Jacobs doesn't even have the secondary trinket.

Because it's terrible business, dumbfcuk. Even Haymon for all his bad business has never dropped half as much for a fight his guy has little chance of winning, and even less confidence. It's beyond irresponsible. Networks don't give money to such clowns.

You know, this is bulls**t. I'm not one of those dingbats that go around claiming everyone is scared of GGG, but I do think these guys all understand the probability of getting KO'd and their career trajectory being derailed is extremely high and want compensation for it.

That being said, they all want money that just ain't there to be had. Say what you want about Loeffler, but the guy runs his business correctly. We just saw on Nov. 19, a $7M purse (main event only) and the gate only did $3M. Who knows what the PPV revenue was but the undercard and total expenses I believe put that whole promotion in the red.

There is not huge money to be had....but there is good money to be had. Sign the fight Jacobs...FFS

... the gate was almost $3.5m, the take on the PPV was likely over $5m according to the initial rumors, and the guarantee to the main event fighters was allegedly $7m.

Not sure what the rest of the card ended up getting paid out, or what it ended up costing to even stage the event, but there's enough money seemingly on the table for the event to have broken even (no acknowledgement of the money earned from selling the UK TV rights to Sky Sports, or the rest of the TV deals, or the countless sponsors of the actual event, etc)

Oh god not this again... I thought we've all established there is no magical 6-7m bid coming.

Ward-Kovalev did over $10m on PPV, with another nearly $3.5m at the gate. And that's without counting any of the additional revenues (international TV, sponsors, etc).

Why is it so hard for folks like you to count the revenues? Between the gate in NYC, a decent PPV audience, the international TV rights in UK, the international TV rights in Germany, sponsors, and other steps they could take to goose up the value of the other TV rights, there's nothing "magical" about $6m being the take on the event.

How much do you think Haymon would bid? I wanna say PBC bid 5 million for Wilder and Povetkin and at that price Jacobs is only getting 1.25 mill. It seems like Haymon would have to bid like 8 million to make sure Jacobs would take the fight and I don't see that happening at all.

I doubt that the bid ends up needing to go anywhere near $8m ($6m/$2m to Jacobs); Haymon/DiBella only need to beat K2. First step is to work backwards from whatever K2 is offering in the negotiations.

Personally, I think Haymon/DiBella can win the bid for $5m ($3.75m to Golovkin/$1.25m plus event upside to Jacobs) to $6m ($4.5m/$1.5m).

Sincerely doubt that K2's pocket is honestly all that deep, tbf

If Jacobs vacates, how is that GGG's fault? GGG has the three belts, he's the A-side, Jacobs couldn't even sell out HALF of Barclay's, his hometown venue, vs Quillin. Jacobs should have taken what was offered months ago. He's in no position to dictate anything, so if he doesn't take what's offered, it's because he's scared, period, and doesn't want to fight GGG. He's about to get a chance at 3 belts and and a top 5 pound for pound guy... he should be jumping at the chance, whatever the money is. Dare to be great. If he ducks, it's on him.

And if Golovkin vacates the belt, what do you say then?
