Comments Thread For: Marquez: Andre Ward Adjusted, Fought Well - Kovalev Also Faded

Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez felt Andre Ward's boxing skills, conditioning and ability to adjust played big factors in last month's fight with Sergey Kovalev at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

They are. Did Marquez even have Ward winning?

Regardless, there is more than one bias that exists. Just because this is a different one than the demographic doesn't mean the demographic bias isn't also real.

      It's like this:

      • There is the counter-puncher bias. Guys like Malignaggi, Marquez may not be part of the dummygraphic, but they have their own bias towards counter-punchers because they are counterpunchers.

      • Then there is the dummgraphic bias. Just because the counter-puncher bias also exists, does not mean that the dummgraphic bias doesn't exist too.

      • Same goes for location. You could have a Russian dude from Oakland who trains at Ward's gym, who says Ward won. You would probably go "See even Russians think Ward won!" and go crazy about it, while ignoring the other variables.

In fact, that's really the reason the dummgraphic gets everything wrong in the first place. They don't understand variables, or context. They use selective logic. For example, when May-Pac negotiations were going on, the dummygraphic said "Floyd is the A-Side. If Manny wants the fight, he needs to accept what Floyd offers, because Floyd is the A-Side."

They said the same with Canelo-GGG negotiations, that GGG should take what's offered.

But then! When GGG-Jacobs negotiations started, I heard the dummygraphic saying "GGG is the A-Side, so that means it's his responsibility to make the fight, and to offer Jacobs what is necessary to make the fight. Jacobs should not just take what's offered. He deserves at least 40%" (even though the actual numbers in his career show he doesn't).

That is the root of the dummygraphic's ******ity. They start with bias, which causes them to use selective logic, and then because the boxing fans dummygraphic is dumb, they're not self-aware enough to see they're using selective logic, even when people like me show them irrefutable evidence that they are.

The dummygraphic is like the "hosts" in Westworld. Once people start using logic around the dummygraphc, it's like when people in Westworld talk about how the hosts are machines around the hosts, the hosts minds just shut off and don't hear it. Same with the dummygraphic and logic. Once the logic starts that exposes their bias, their minds just shut off and it's like it never happened. It's like an inner defense mechanism that allows them to maintain their racist views without ever having to face the evidence that shows them they're wrong. They will do anything to maintain their racism and bias, even turning off their brains.

Razor close fight either way all the boxers and counter punchers are all saying they saw Ward win 5-12. They all say kovalev faded got eaten up inside has no inside game. Punchers all say kovalev won easy. Kovalev should add uppercuts to his inside game and learn body punching I guess Jackson will have to trick him to learn something new like he said he has to when teaching him Jackson was a outside guy too

The arguments for Ward winning sound much the same as the arguments for Brook taking round 1 in the GGG fight (and indeed, 2 judges gave Brook that round)

Here was one report after the fight:

..Brook looked shaken halfway through the first round, wobbling on a crunching left hook to the head from Golovkin with his back up against the ropes. For a brief moment, it appeared the 30-year-old Brook wouldn't be able to withstand the mythic power of Golovkin for very long.

But unlike so many fighters before him, Brook didn't crumble, didn't retreat. He steadied himself and rocked Golovkin with a couple of hard right-handed shots late in the round, further riling up an already frenzied crowd......'

              Note the sentiment:
              - but unlike so many fighters before him..
              - didn't crumble, didn't retreat
              - rocked Golovkin (he didn't, he landed a couple of shots that did NOT rock him)
              - frenzied crowd
              - GGG's mythic power (definition mythic = no foundation in fact, imaginary, fictitious)

It mentioned GGG rocking him, so lets add this to some other information about that round
              - GGG threw more punches than Brook (60 vs 52)
              - landed at a higher percentage (50% vs 37%)
              - landed more punches (30 vs 19)
              - landed the harder shots (more subjective, but pretty hard to argue against)
              - rocked the opponent (ie Brook staggered and had to hang on)

The rationale for giving that round to Brook sounded a lot like the rationale for giving Ward some of the rounds.

Sure you can argue it was Brook's round, the argument is given above. Most had Golovkin winning the first round. I see the same arguments as above for some of Ward's rounds, then defended by 'the judges agree'.
