Remember Haymon & Schaefer supposedly tried to steal GBP from Oscar?

He never had this option. He was going down this road, but someone tipped him off that they were changing all his fighters to fight by fight contracts getting ready for a mass exodus. There's a reason haymon paid an 8 figure settlement, because an arbitrator felt like this was a pretty big deal.

Yea he did, he could have kept letting Schaeffer run the show and not stuck his nose in, that was totally an option for him. They only offered to buy him out once he started wanting to run things his way and was interfering with plans they had already put in motion while Oscar was off doing god knows what.

Oscar ****ed them bad, and PBC would be years ahead of where they are now if Oscar has just played ball either way and he would have been in better position.

Once Oscar ****ed them they had to be done with Oscar because he could no longer be trusted, so they paid to have their guys released. It's not just Haymon. People like to forget all the investors leaving Golden Boy when Schaefer was fired. These are serious business people who aren't in the business of coddling a crack head. It's amazing that Schaefer got them to invest in a boxing promotion company in the first place. Boxing isn't taken serious in the business world. Oscar's behavior would only be tolerated in boxing. Any other industry there would've been a hostile takeover and we would've really seen some snake businessmen.

The only reason fighters use "cowardly tactics" as you put it is because they using their advantage over opponents who can't seem to cut them off. Don't blame them.

This is no secret they wanted to buy him out because remember it was around the time he was checking into rehab yet again and yes that was BAD FOR BUSINESS so yes that is what Partners do they buy other Partners OUT if they're not holding up their end! But it was Oscar's name so can't blame him for refuse either!

But that provision of terminating contracts if a fighter loses a single match? WTF? That is TERRIBLE on GBP Part WTF is that?

Also them having to APPROVE who fighters pick as Representation as far as Managers or whoever? How is that not against the Ali Act?

Every promotional contract has that, and there's nothing wrong with it. The reality is that after a fighter takes a loss, depending on the nature of that loss, the economics of their fights changes, and their previous contract needs to be scrapped and re-negotiated.

Or do you think for example that Nicholas Walters purse minimums should stay the same as they were before the Lomo fight?

Oscar and GBP were set up in beautiful position, which the only thing Oscar really brought to the table was Canelo. Which was a key piece but Canelo would not have got involved without the work of others did to make GBP what it was.

I mean how many promotional companies grow years after the main guy retired, and it sure as **** was not Oscar's doing why GBP was doing so well so long after he retired.


Haymon and Schaeffer are sharks no doubt and they were set up to be covered any way it went down so Oscar going against them was about the dumbest play he could make. They certainly did not want it to go like it went though because both dudes put a ton of time and effort into GBP that ended up totally wasted.
