Comments Thread For: Castano Captures WBA Gold, Maidana Continues Making Noise

Brian Castano (16-0, 12 KOs), considered by many as the best prospect of Argentina in the last few years, became the new WBA Interim Super Welterweight champion after stopping the brave Puerto Rican Emmanuel De Jesus in the sixth round last Saturday in Gonzalez Catan, Buenos Aires.

Those three were World Series of Boxing fights.

I believe the world series of boxing are considered pro fights. I thought they get paid for those fights. I could be wrong

Very intrigued by Fabian Maidana, looks like the second coming of Chino himself. Will be exciting to follow his career from here on out.

On paper maybe, but in reality they're not pro fights. They do get paid for it though, yes.

              They count...apparently.

Deverenchenko (spelling) only has 10 or so pro boxing fights but they list him as 33-1 or whatever he was in WSB.

Why not? They get paid and don't use headgear don't they?

I didn't know about this. The Castano buzz seems to have cooled a bit after some early career hype. What's he going to do with this strap? He's nowhere near ready for someone like Lara.

Me too. Couldn't help but think he looks better than the early version of Chino ! (quite a lot better !)

If he's got his big bro's skills though, maybe no surprise as he'll be getting the training Chino wish he had in the early days.

Don't forget too Chino got a lot better around the time he faced Broner - whatever Chino learned around that time will be drilled into little bro right now 'hey, took me n frigging fights before I learned this-and-this, you get it into your head NOW...'.

Should be interesting to see how far he goes. Looks like he carries some pop like big bro did too.

Just hope he doesn't have dinner with big bro too often....
