this is good...almost like Trump's presidency....you need a train wreck for the market to be realistic again.Comment

I don't think its this. Boxers have to be able to get people excited before the fight so they purchase tickets/PPV. Neither Ward or Kov have the charisma needed to attract casual fans prior to a fight. The ability to "sell" is in many ways the most important skill a fighter can have.
The people promoting this fight needed to make sure one of them "sold" the fight-either Kov should've been Drago/Anti American in the media pre fight or Ward should've been Ali/Floyd and been more brash.
When they announce the rematch, if both guys learn to "sell", they should do significantly more.I think I'm inclined to agree with Dunn here NEET, Floyd built himself a profile, Manny went out and was on a serious tear for years the good boy of boxing and the Christ figure to the Anti-Christ (Floyd), Dude also has an entire continent behind him too and Floyd insulted him at every opportunity, 'I'm gonna have that yellow bastard cook me sushi' of whatever he said !I actually find Ward and Kovalev to be two of the most interesting characters in the sport right now. It is the promoters' fault for failing to build a compelling narrative and sell it to the public. Also, the weak tune-ups didn't help either, it was basically a waste of a year
The onus is on the fighter.
I do feel Pac and May destroyed the ppv's for boxing and it only appears to be flourishing in the UK right now where Hearn has posters like Laced Up and The Plunger Man in the palm of his hands, the Brits will pay to taste anything you place in their mouths.
I find these guys far more interesting but it just doesn't translate into big viewing figures, casuals want smack talk and fences between fighters at weigh ins, Chisora vs Whyte is being used to as the co main event to help sell Joshua vs Molina, work that shyt out !Comment

I was talking with my brother the other week and he says Kovalev won I disagreed and said I felt Ward did, his response was I'm done with boxing I'll stick to UFC in future.
That's what boxing is up against, casuals are more excited by UFC. It genuinely has stolen the audience, personally I've no interest whatsoever but this smack talkin Irish dude people are paying to see him back his shyt up and paying to hope he loses, either way he has them all along for the ride.
1.6m is something else, what's the average cost ?Comment

I gotta give it to UFC. They put on exciting cards.I was talking with my brother the other week and he says Kovalev won I disagreed and said I felt Ward did, his response was I'm done with boxing I'll stick to UFC in future.

Even the free prelims that were being shown on FS1 were really good. I ended up buying the card because of it. Wasn't disappointed.Comment

If you ask a GGG fanboy it's 500k, had nothing to do with it being in the UK or Brook being the guy carrying the card.
Lemieux the Canadian ppv star did not help him carry a card either, but that depends on who you're asking and what their agenda is.Comment

you're blaming the fans? really? smh....boxing is run like absolute ****, it needs to crash so it can be realistic again. Boxing in Mexico was marginalised for years because they emulated the american model.....once they abondoned it, boxing slowly but surely got back to the mainstream(though they didn't have a moron like Haymon staging the comeback to mainstream tv)...Comment

I don't watch it but I'm sure guys like Arum and Haymon are desperate to start up some kind of venture as they appear to have missed the boat.
I can't relate to UFC whatsoever, it's all a little barbaric. I can appreciate the craft, dedication and application these guys put in, take some big ole balls to get in one of those rings man, personally I think 'fück that'.Comment
