Boxing does make it a little tougher but you start out on the undercards of some major PPV. UFC has the platform of a PPV every month under their brand so it makes it much easier to build a nobody into a somebody. But even they can't work miracles.

The best P4P UFC fighter is Demetrius "Mighty Mouse" Johnson who can't even headline PPV cards anymore because he was pulling 100K buys. Jose Aldo was also a great great fighter who couldn't draw flies to sheet. A lot of it comes down to the fighter's aura, being unbeatable and exciting and all that. Guys like Spence and Joshua, if promoted right can get there.

Not great. Certainly not inspiring considering the garbage fights that have sold better in the past. But we have to be realistic about boxing as it is today. You know it's not selling well when there's rumors Floyd's retirement fight is between 400k-500k. The top draw isn't drawing crazy numbers.

It didn't help that they didn't have a good lead in to the fight either - Ward was painfully underwhelming versus Brand, that was a Gavin Rees kind of opponent without the knockout. And Kov didn't look his usual self versus Chilemba. It might not seem like a big deal to hardcore fans, but it's a bad glimpse of why people should shell out their hard earned money, when you're trying to convince them to do so.

They seemed to just be looking for big names to build their brand and a loss was obviously going to happen...Maybe they are looking long term

Good!! They need to realize that paying these boxers too much money has consequences. PPVs should be reserved for mega fights with good undercards to help it.

UFC 205 had 3 championship fights and had a lot of people happy cause they got their money's worth. This is something that is seriously lacking in boxing.

Even taking into account that it was Ward's first time on PPV it is very disappointing, US fans need to start backing your own boys more. However it is safe to say that Crawford and Ward just don't have that star quality

I'd imagine the success of McGregor and the UFC this past year or two has played some part in these underwhelming boxing buy-rates.

Victor Ortiz was on dancing with the stars. What's he done in Boxing to warrant more attention than Ward or Kovalev.
I see a snippet of Kovalev on Fox News the other day. Simple things like that can help build your profile.

Kovalev while exciting to watch is not a star yet. He's a foreigner who barely speaks english.

Given these ppv results, Ward needs to get off of his high horse and realize that he's not a star.

For the record, this is the only ppv that I purchased all year!

I can't remember the last time I bought a boxing PPV tbh and I feel no remose either. And to tell you the truth, sometimes I don't even tune in to HBO. I just stream that **** on my PC.

Ive said it many times, they need our money, we dont need their product. We can just stream for free.
