But equally seriously, Russell has only had 3 fights since Loma, Loma's had 5. Russell isn't getting better by not fighting. There is an easy route for Russell to go to 130 and take on Martinez and Walters, both of whom will be looking for fights to get credibility back, and they are the sorts of tune-ups he would need to then have a credible crack at Loma. If he blows them both out like Loma did, it sets up a credible rematch. Else go get a belt from someone like Pedraza or Verdejo - if he's got a belt to trade, Loma will be wanting Russell as much as Russell says he wants Loma.
Walter just wanted a paycheck and I was never really that high on him in the first place. Walters to me always seemed to look good when he was beating up smaller guys like Donaire. I always felt once he moved up in weight and fought guys his own size, his punching power wouldn't be all that.
Martinez was never a world beater just a good solid fighter. Martinez was done before Loma got to him. To me Martinez was done after the Mikey Garcia fight. I agree Russell does need to be more active but at the same time it's been hard for him to get the Lee Selby's, Carl Frampton's and Leo Santa Cruz's in the ring. I do believe he could get Oscar Valdez in the ring or he may just need to move up to 130. With that said I'm not saying he beats Loma in a rematch. I'm just saying he didn't look right that night, like he did before and after. Not to say he would of won if he was 100%, he just looked off to me that night. There have been other fighters where I've said the same thing, they just didn't look right for whatever reason, be it physical or mental.

I want to see Russell fight the other top Featherweights.
Fans say he's a bum. Well, I want to see what Frampton, LSC, Valdez, Selby, Cuellar, and Mares do against Russell.
I'm not saying they wouldn't have a chance, but people act like they would easily beat Russell.
I don't think Selby wants anything to do with him. Selby doesn't want anything to do with anybody except Frampton it seems.

As much as I rag on Russell, he never quit. He took his boxing lesson and went on about his business. He has a lot of flaws, but quitting isn't one of them.

Agree, Russell's efforts against Loma look better and better as time goes by. Its frustrating though as he's got the talent and attitude to go far, but we just aren't seeing enough of him.

Please excuse the brain fart earlier I mentioned getting a belt off Verdejo, I meant Vargas (close, both begin with V). I'd love to hear a match-up has been made between Russell and any of Pedraza/Vargas/Corrales, but even then it would be smarter for Russell to get more active with someone like Martinez before going for a belt.

I know everyone is down on Walters, but I've got a hunch Russell v Walters might actually be a pretty good fight. With Russell, Walters would have a target he felt he could get to, and would be back to the old Waters we saw before. Just a hunch.

Anyway, lots of options for Russell at 130, hopefully we get to see more of him.

Actually I know what you mean about 'not looking right'. Sometimes you get that feeling before a fight. A good example was Golovkin before Brook, ok Golovkin went on to do what he does, but something wasn't right with Golovkin in the build-up.

Also had the feeling with Walters before Loma, couldn't put a finger on it, something about his demeanour. I ended up putting it down to him not being comfortable in front of cameras, and that when the bell went he forgot about them (reminds me of Till Lindemann of Rammstein who doesn't like being looked at, which is quite a problem when you're the front guy of a rock band).

Sometimes you just get that feeling.....

Honestly I have no desire to see a rematch unless Russell can get some big wins in the meantime.

Russell is a good fighter but I think what we saw the first time is still the case now: he's not on Loma's level (nothing to be ashamed of).

I agree as much as he denied being sick or anything, GGG did look off in Brook fight.

Russel has filth inside you can smell each time he opens his mouth. I respect him as much as Walters.

Why keep boxers for higher standards than other people? Gary got in his own hype with "fastest hands", but tbf he actually pretty darn good fighter, and ambitions never have been bad for an athlete. He would've been unbeaten champ with couple of belts already and even in some fans p4p list if he didn't fight Lomachenko.

Gary needs some more wins to make it interesting.

Why did he only fight once this year anyway? And against a domestic level fighter to make things worse. This ******* has done next to nothing in the sport and is saying he needs bigger paydays to motivate him to fight. He says this after getting $800,000 to face the might of Patrick Hyland.

In trying to find some indication of his next fight, I did find this wonderful insight on the PBC website:

Which wild animal best describes your personality?

It’s between a tiger and a bear—I would probably say the grizzly bear. The only reason I would maybe consider the tiger is that they do a lot of hunting by themselves, and I’m a unique boxer in a similar way.

Thank you Al Haymon, for all you've done for boxing.
