I always take Bob's comments with a grain of salt. Good commentator like Lampley, but he, like Lampley, can be bought and sold easily. And as for the 3-4 rows back biz for Merchant... that's ridiculous. I've been to some fights at that distance. It's easy to see everything that's going on in there.Comment

In Larry Merchant's defense, he wasn't scoring the fight at ringside, which perhaps skewed his perception of the actual fight.
For nearly 40 years, Merchant has been typically seated at ringside, calling fights on television, while sitting in front of a monitor on the scorer's table.
Look the man is nearly 86 years old in February, so his vision may not be as good as it once was. In addition, he was watching the fight in the audience as a spectator, so that could have easily obstructed his sight too.Comment

No he is at odds because Merchant had Kovalev winning by a much larger margin. To his recollection of the fight, he saw a robbery and not a close fight. That's why he says there is no need for a rematch.
In his mind and I cannot speak for him but he probably had Sergey winning by 8 or 9 points which is absurd. However,if he did indeed have it by that margin, then he is either bias or suffering from some kind of dementia.Comment

Ring side is nasty, sweat, blood, and boogers flying everywhere. The floor is slippery from it all. 10 rows back is OK.I always take Bob's comments with a grain of salt.
