I agree. Fast hands will put you above the bums and the mediocre, but at the highest level you need skills. At the elite level you fight guys that you're not going to beat simply by being fast. Lomachenko showed him this. Russell is flat footed and has absolutely no care for what's coming back when he lets his hands go. Not to mention he's never beat anyone THAT good. Not sure we can say Valdez is elite yet, but he definitely has a chance in this fight.

This would be a guaranteed exciting fight. I have concern with both guys. A) Russell and his talks about retiring in a few fights has me concerned about his motivations for boxing and if his heart is not all the way in it. B), Valdez makes a huge mistake and it is shocking he has not corrected it. He loads up on every single shot and never varies the intensity. That's going to cost him stamina and will make him susceptible to counters against higher opposition. But this would be a barnburner fight.

I'm a fan of Russell and he wants big names, tried for Selby, frampton and Santa Cruz but he is not a big money fight so he is being avoided. This may be his only option but I think a purse bid for a unification fight could get him a decent purse.

I think Valdez is a quality fighter and is on a hell of a run, however he's not really crafty which is what cost grj vs Loma. I think it'd be an exciting fight as both are available to be hit and both throw bombs

Russell excels against the Mexican school, he made his career fighting Mexican TBAs. He won his title against a Mexican. Valdez might be fresher, but I think Russell can figure him out. Somebody go find Russell, I think he's scared of making money.

You make a good point! If this kid wants to become a star, Arum will give him a better chance of doing so. The only problem I see with having Arum/Haymon as ur promoter/manager, Arum does business different than Haymon. A lot of Haymon fighters HAVE NOT fault once in 2016. Arum has an eye for talent while Haymon has an eye on how to steal talent.

Al Haymon developed Errol Spence Jr from scratch, so to act like Haymon has a bad eye for talent is ridiculous.

Arum can't make Valdez for the simple fact that 1)he no longer controls the TV at HBO and 2) he has access to very few of the actual top fighters at 126 [with most of the talent with Haymon, Top Rank would be treated like Arum treats Zanfer in pretty much every fight].
