I watched the 10th a couple times since it seems like be the controversal round. And everytime, I've given it to Ward. To me, the 9th appeared to be more of a Kovalev round than the 10th. And everyone seems to have conceded it to Ward.

There were so many razor-thin rounds that this fight was borderline impossible to score. And depending on what a person favors, the scores could be all over the place. Purposely giving Kovalev all the close rounds, I had him winning 117-111. Doing the same for Ward, I had him winning 117-110. My actual score, the way I saw the fight was 114-113 for Ward, just like the judges. And I thought Kovalev won watching it live.

I just found it weird they gave Ward EVERY round from 7-12 except the one who gave Kovalev the 12th but he already had Ward winning no matter what anyway... I had it 114-113 Kovakev but I haven't rewatched it yet so I could easily change my score watching without people around me.

It wasn't a robbery, just a really tough close fight that should have a rematch.

100% agree that it was super close and nothing was settled. I think the reason for the controversy is because most people appear to have overrated the level of dominance each fighter had in the respective parts of the fight they supposedly owned. Kovalev supposedly dominated the first half of the fight. But you could easily give Ward 1, 3, 4, and 5. I think I ended up giving him the 3rd and the 5th. I think Malignaggi gave him every round 1-6 except the 2nd. Ward supposedly dominated the second half of the fight. But I only thought he won one round clearly, and that was the 8th. So scoring is gonna be all over the place. And if you favor aggression, which most fans do, I could easily see someone feeling that Kovalev dominated that fight and took 9-10 rounds.

This fight, and many others point to even bigger issues in how fights are won nowadays. First off, there's not enough rounds. There needs to be 15 rounds for fights of this magnitude. Kovalev was fading a bit down the stretch. But, he still managed to keep the pressure on Ward. I doubt both of them see the final bell in a 15 round fight. The 10 point must system is a joke. It tries to reward KDs. But it really screws up scoring. If you win the round you get a point. If you lose it, you get nothing. If its even, you both get a point. Lastly, nobody scores even rounds anymore. There were several rounds in this fight with very little separation as far as effectiveness. The first round is a prime example. Neither guy did anything. Kovalev basically won the round because he landed a jab and Ward stumbled. The 12th was a "Ward round." But he basically did nothing. He won it because Kovalev appeared to kinda give it away. The common theme of this fight was Kovalev pressing, and landing very little. And Ward retreating, landing very little, but landing the clearer shots. A personally legitimately could have scored at least 8 even rounds in that fight. And only having each fighter winning two rounds apiece comfortably. Which would obviously give Kovalev a one point win. But you're really splitting hairs there. So it all goes back to the original point. Nothing was settled that night. And there has to be a rematch. B1tch'n on either side is pointless. You fight to see who's better, and we still don't know. So they have to do it again.
