Exactly. And Ward will really be in denial in the rematch where he's put into snoozeland early.

The very good fights always do that...entire JMM/Pac series, Floyd/Maidana 1, Canelo/Lara, DLH/Trinidad, etc. No sense in crying about the outcome now though. Donald Trump won the election - move on. Andre Ward won the fight - move on. Great contest and glad Kovy has an immediate rematch clause...so we'll see them go at it again. All the people crying robvery and blaming Ward are upet kids or just idiots. Real boxing fans know that was a good fight that was very close. Props to both and I can't wait for #2
Delusional much? You obviously were watching a different fight. In a fairly judged fight, Kovalev wins. This one had the 'electoral college' fix. But Kovalev won't let Ward get away twice.

So what is Kovalev going to change in 4-6 months? He has never been an inside fighter and hasn't had the best stamina. Ward can fight the next 12 like he fought the last 8. I also think Ward times Kovalev jab better in the RM.

With the adjustments we know Ward and Hunter make, I see the RM as another decision win by Ward but with a lot more consensus that he won.

Think about it though, if Ward was to stand up and say /yeah you know what, that was close and controversial we need to do it again', or whatever, then he is totally going against the grain of his image.

Ward always acted greater than he is (riding his Super6 success into the ground while fighting nobody in the process, for example) but now he seems like he has absorbed himself into actually thinking that he is greater than he is. He is held up as this special P4P Number 1 tactical, intelligent and masterful guy that takes you out of your game with his superior craft etc...Is that what he looked like vs Sergey? No...and far from it.

If you lie to yourself enough you can end up actually believing it.

Side note: I have scored the fight twice now and had it for Kovalev both times. Close - but Kovalev. They need the rematch early next year, March-May latest.
Exactly. In the buildup he kept going on and on about how he was this extra special fighter. You nailed it.

First, Ward wasn't all that slick in this one. He got pounded and beaten. Or did you not see the 'after' footage? Adjustments? Nearly every time he tried something slick, Kovalev was right on him. Kovalev landed more shots, and he even admitted he held back. That won't happen in the rematch. I just hope you don't bet the farm on Ward to repeat. IMO, it won't happen.

Kov hurt Ward early the first time and couldn't finish. What makes you think he'll be able to do it again now that Ward knows exactly what he brings to the table?

Typical post by you. Argue against a comment that nobody made. Who said anything about slick? There is no reason for him to fight any different than he did the last 6 rounds. And the adjustments come in knowing the timing of Kovalev jab and mistakes made in timing it and evading it. Also, when did facial damage start determining who wins a decision. It's round by round scoring.

So you really believe Kovalev held back in the biggest fight in his career? He said he was going to KO Ward!

Kovalev missed his chance. You could see that Ward was still fighting his way back from the effects of his long layoff. Two easy paid sparring matches don't add up to a real scrap against a top fighter after the amount of time Ward spent away from the ring. The fact that Kovalev was spent by the end in a way we have never seen before doesn't bode well for him in a rematch against a now sharper and more prepared Ward.

Im not claiming he was weight drained but I was told by a few people on here that it is hard for him to make 175 and that he wanted to fight at CW at some point.

Yea, a professional in a fight of this magnitude and his 0 on the line definitely held back...
