I think some boxers just feel more comfortable boxing like that, it's their own style.
Boxers who use the dropped left hand

Tommy Hearns was the most notorious fighter to do this. Even made my ****** school mates at the time do it in real fights and end up getting their bells rung.Comment

I really don't think Mayweather uses this very much. I see Mayweather drop his hands when he is on the move and dodging punches the same way Ali did. But thats okay because when they are more offensive during their fights, both of these fighters had their hands up.
People like Roy, Malignaggi, and DLH use this then they are looking to punch off of a missed right hand... Most people that do this usually get knocked out at some time in their career. I just don't think it is a smart way to fight.Comment

Exactly right. James Toney, Ali, RJJ and PBF used it succesfully with great upper body movement and great shoulder rolls and rolling with the rights. You can say many things about James Toney but the man is technically one of the soundest boxers out there so is PBF who didn't attempt to use this versus the Southpaw style of Zab.Originally posted by Rockin1The fighters who generally do this with success are the fighters that know how to roll with the right hands coming at them. It invites the opponent to throw it and then they hope to counter.
The lesser fighters try it and get dropped before too long..

Used by an experienced technically sound fighter it can be effective. Used by a guy trying to show off or a guy being lazy it can be dangerous.Comment
