Boxers who use the dropped left hand

Does anyone else hate when boxers drop their left hand to box?

I think this is a sloppy style to box in and leaves you vulernable to so many shots. Sometimes this style can set you up for a good shot but I think leaves you open to so many more powerful shots from your opponents right hand. I like a boxer who uses both hands for defense and both hands for offense. As the reason I like Winky Wright.

If a boxer can get away with it because they are slick enough to avoid practically any shot so it hardly matters, like Roy Jones Jr. before he moved up to heavyweight, then why not?

The dropped left hand can still be used defensively. Use your "dropped left" to block body shots on your left side, while your right hand is convering your face/head, it allows you to catch punches easily on both sides of your head/face, and counter with the left easily as well. The one downfall of this is that you become more susceptable to a wide left hook.

The fighters who generally do this with success are the fighters that know how to roll with the right hands coming at them. It invites the opponent to throw it and then they hope to counter.

The lesser fighters try it and get dropped before too long..

I completely agree, seeing that opening tempts the opposing fighter to throw the right, which can be deflected with the shoulder(roll)or caught with the right, and can be countered with a straight right or a lunging left hook. Mayweather performs this very well.

Jermaine Taylor is a perfect example of a fighter who needs to keep his left hand up. He is very easy to hit with the straight right hand plus with no head movement makes it easier. Just look at both Hopkins fights if you don't believe me.

PBF also uses this, SRL used it occasionally.
