I was in a very pro Kovalev crowd on a big screen and I may have been swayed by the early kd, but I remember giving 1 or 2 rounds to Ward prior to the fifth. What I didn't realize was how little Sergey did in the second half.

Round 3 and 10 are the only debatable ones, everything else was pretty much clear cut.

I remember Ward hitting the better shots in the 10th, but that was a pretty close round. And the right hook Sergey threw at the hand didn't land.

^This. Remember when Max had to pump the brakes and say "he hasn't won the fight just yet" after the KD? Even I though Ward was done at that point.

Agreed. Everyone wanted to call it a 50/50 fight going in. But, they don't want to accept that the outcome might be close to 50/50 as well.

The fact that the judges were able to see past the excitement of the 2nd round and actually score it reasonably is a sign of what's RIGHT in boxing.
if you got to watch it four times then i don't trust what you have to say.

As I always say, if you think you already know it all, then your mind is closed to any new information or knowledge.

Look, if I didn't rewatch fights, I'd be here screaming foul as well. I had it for Kovalev initially and rewatching it, I felt the right man won.

Emotions run high on this site, it's the norm.

I hadn't a clear boxer I wanted to win more than the other I was just in awe of them both, a little disappointment for Kovalev as I thought he could have fought harder down the stretch which is why I feel Ward deserved it more because he dug deeper.

The trainers for me were probably the difference last night, Hunter is the best in the game and it showed how he kept on and on and on at Ward refusing to let him switch off and slip like Kovalev did.

The fighter with the toughest mentality won last night and it wasn't Kovalev, Ward has the mindset of a winner and showed why he is the pound for pound no.1, unfortunately their can only be one no.1, Kovalev has to settle for second best, an exceptionally close second.

Round 10 was a clear cut Kovalev round and he needed that round first round he won in two or three rounds

Cant wait for the second fight...Kovalev knows he can't let it go the distance and will throw everything at Ward in the first three rounds if he knows whats good for him,if that round was a minute longer man... i could have seen him finishing Ward...at least this isnt gonna be a what if...we'll actually see these guys again and get this decided once and for all who the better fighter is.....just like everyone here claiming marquez closed the show on pac"no need for another fight" hope kovalev blows him out in 1

Kovalev knows now he can't beat him over 12 attempting to outbox the boxer or he will be outhustled again.

The only way he beats him is KO, you're right I do believe he attempted to last night and that was why he appeared to be blowing late as he was mentally drained he was unable to utilise his fight ending power he has always been able to rely on when he's been in with lesser opposition than Andre.

The writing was on the wall when he fought Chilemba and against BHOP too, he gets ragged, flustered and tagged when he can't stop a boxer, in many ways he was exposed last night but he's still a pound for pound top 2-3 imo, he just lost to the best boxer in the world.

The victory for Ward raises Froch and Kessler's stock somewhat too I feel, shows how good an opponent they were up against 5-7 years ago now, as Jackson said during the week Ward is on the decline too whilst Kovalev is in his prime.

I gave Kovalev the tenth too, just had the fight even after five and Ward never behind after that.
