    Against the "smaller dude."...

Why would a known aggressor quit that style against Ward? Didn't Golovkin attempt "beast mode" when he had enough of Brook?

It's so easy to go "beast mode" against Andre Ward.

Also the size difference isn't that drastic between them. He might be on the smaller end of a Light Heavy weight, but he's not a Super middle anymore.

Kova was not closing Ward's direction. Perhaps the judges expect more from the new conservative approach against Ward.

When he had Ward against the ropes he didn't lay into him. It's because Krusher moves forward when he strikes. When he runs out of room, he often resets and goes back to the center (unless the opponent is hurt and vulnerable).
Golovkin is a very different striker. He attacks most effectively when the opponent is still and pinned.

Kovalev doesn't really fight that way, he's a boxer puncher who sets everything up with measuring distance with that telephone pole jab. Which he did, was even popping Ward in the face with it while he tried to showboat.

Anyone noticed Ward tried to lift Kova from a headlock but he couldn't? Shows how much of a counter grapple and counter strength Kova has to control the inside. With Barrera however, and the Cuban was bigger, Ward lifted him up on headlock the same way Alvarez did to Khan.

Man, there's no way Golovkin is stronger than Ward on the inside. It would be Golovkin's nightmare let alone worry about Ward's speed and defense. Golovkin has good timing for strong shots, but looking at tapes and age, Golovkin is easy work for Ward. I've never even advocated a fight between them. I don't think it's "fair" for Golovkin. Hence the 164 catch. Then again Golovkin can step it up the way Bhop did with Tarver and shock us all regardless of age. I don't recall Bhop slipping though with traps before leading to Tarver.

Kovalev was freaky strong, and big. His frame looked wide but thin at the weigh-in. In the ring though, holy shyt. Looked like an eagle fighting a crow when tough look at their postures. I thought they would be roughly the same size but Kovalev is the bigger, stronger man. Not by a mile, but by enough to be noticeable. Goes to show that you can't go on stats alone.

Is it because the closer Kov got to Ward the easier it was for Ward to clinch and grapple?

Kov was trying to stop all that. But Ward got it going due to anther corrupt ref.

                Cong**** man.

Lol. "Clinching" and pounding. Baer vs Schmelling, classics were corrupt? Baer in Rd 1 swung Schmelling to the ropes in which today would be a blatant point deduction

Who cares about the past? I'm talking about the here and now. Ward is a cheat and should DQ'd for that ****.

Br honest, you don't actually enjoy watching that poison do you? It's just due to him being a black American.

                    It's ok, I know.
