No one would say Ward got rob if Kov won, except hard core Ward fans.

What's sad about this is this just shows the divisions in boxing. Just imagine what Ward fans would get saying if roles were reversed.

Merchant ****ting on a black fighter is par for the course with that 104 year old piece of drunk ****. I'm not sure I can think of a respected pundit in boxing who more casually & consistently goes against a certain race/nationality of boxers as much as Merchant seems to. I mean this racist mfer was ****ting on Mike Tyson when he was the biggest & most exciting fighter in boxing.

What's amazed me more than anything is the amount of comments from black people who think that everyone who knows Kovalev won is just a racist who hates black people.

Let me just tell you. I've never hated black people. I've never thought white people were smarter than black people. But I will say, seeing this many absolutely ****ing ******ed black people all come out on the same night repeating the same ****** bull**** did tempt me into thinking that way, for just a second. It's all Kovalev's fault. He promised to break Andre's hands if there was any clinching, he promised all kinds of destruction, but he only landed one meaningful punch and the clinching was mutual. Kovalev was holding the ropes when he had Andre's back to them. He followed Andre like a bad Frankenstien monster imitation. He stunk. Larry has a gift job, he stinks too. You can tell he never had a glove on in his life.

How folks perceived the scores for the fight, reading the comments, comes down to how folks perceive fights.

Larry Merchant has always been a scorer that rewards aggressiveness/coming forward (effective or otherwise) and general power punching, over basically everything else.

If a round is in question, Merchant's general inclination has always been to give the edge to the fighter with Kovalev's style over the fighter with Ward's style.

Put the focus on clean effective punching (like judges are supposed to), and the fight gets looked at differently; rather than be in awe with Kovalev simply coming forward and being the aggressor, you start to see that the aggression didn't actually result in all that much being landed (while also leaving Kovalev open to get raked with clean and clear counter shots).
