T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas - Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events, was very upset with the outcome of Saturday's fight - where her star boxer Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KOs) lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Andre Ward (31-0, 15KOs).

How lame is this, using a name from the UFC who weighs 20 pounds lighter.

dont really want to see ward getting all of the flak, he clinched a lot but this shouldnt be a shock and kovalev dealt pretty well with it.

Kovalev initiated just as many clinches as Ward as he was dead tired in the second half of the fight. Lame

Keep it professional Duva. Smile, shake hands, and focus on making the rematch.

To be fair, her guy was doing probably MORE GRABBING AND HOLDING than anybody expected but I get it, he was trying to show Ward that he wasn't going to be bullied on the inside. It was actually working early but then Ward started freeing his hand and punishing him to the body

I thought Byrd was fair as a ref can be giving Warning to Both when things got too crazy on the inside

But no it wasn't just Ward doing the Holding and Grabbing alone, Kovalev did some holding and grabbing as he got tired

We wouldn't even be talking about Ward's cheating if the judges weren't also cheating themselves, but here we are. Even with all Ward's fouling to slow the more talented, explosive fighter down, Kovalev was still able to use his fundamentals and his superior ring generalship to close the fight. Winning round 10 was huge for him to seal the win on every reasonable scorecard after winning, at minimum, rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. I also gave him 5. Was a textbook even round in terms of punches, but add in Kovalev winning the effective aggression criteria all round and that breaks the 10-10 round his way to a 10-9.

But I realize some gave round 5 to Ward, which is why Kovalev winning round 10 so clearly was so important, to get him to six rounds plus the knockdown and secure the win on every non-biased card. And that's without any of the other swing rounds going his way.

But because the judges were corrupt, we have to go through all this bull****. I don't care. I guess they're stuck doing the rematch now since what else can you do after such a high profile robbery? But I honestly don't think the fight was close enough to warrant a rematch. Kovalev threw more, landed more, threw more power shots, landed more, threw way more head shots, landed more and cleaner, he dropped Ward, he dealt with a biased referee and still did all this, and even Stephen A. Smith and Roy Jones Jr. said he won. I had it 8-4 Kovalev. Gave him the first six rounds, plus round 10, and pick one of the swing rounds 9, 11, or 12. I still gave two to Ward, even though the more I watch, I go back and forth on them all. So close. But give Ward 2/3 since it don't matter. 8-4 total.

Hopefully the rematch has a fair ref and fair judges this time. Honestly, I think they waited too long for the fight anyway. They both threw under 500 punches. Neither looked like they were their prime selves. Once again boxing promoters are incompetent and wait until their athletes are 32, and 33, respectively, before making the fight. Don't they know professional athletes start to decline around age 30 in almost every sport, including boxing? This was a tense fight but underwhelming in terms of pace and action. Guess why? Because they're 32 and 33 years old! The gas tank aint there anymore. Just like Pacquiao's stamina started to decline around 31, 32. It happens with them all. But promoters still wait until after 30 to make good fights. ****ing incompetence robbing the sport of great fights. There is always something missing these days, and that something is real prime fighters.

Anyway, at this point all you can hope is they get the rematch over with within the next three months, and don't drag out the bull**** even more.
