He set up his punches beautifully, timed Ward coming in numerous times, neutralized Ward's left hook until the 11th round, just to name a few things

Lucky punch. There's aspect of unpredictability in the sport and there's a lot of examples when boxers with higher ring IQ were dropped by stronger punchers. Kovalev needed that 2nd KO real bad
