I'd expect if Virgil was waving a banana at JDJ and telling him he needs to support black people more, as Pascal did, then it would invoke a very different reaction.

That said, i didn't see the weigh-in as i was watching the George Groves fight. So i don't know how the two trainers acted with each other.

Kovalev is known for having his own mind as to what he needs to do to win - conflicts with his team are par for the course.

Kovalev screwed up with Chilemba and no-one needs to tell him why - he knows (and has stated) he got too in love with his KO power and burned himself out too early. He won't make the same mistake against Ward - Chilemba was Kovalev's wake-up call that 'hey, you getting too coc.k'y' , and it has grounded him for the Ward fight (ie perfect preparation - Ward would have beaten the version of Kovalev that fought Chilemba).

Its still going to be a great fight, but Kovalev needed the Chilemba fight - nothing his team needs to tell him about what went wrong, he knows..

Virgil Hunter is trying his best to get under the skin of kovalev. He is throwing a wrench in kovalev's gears by saying that he is being underpaid, and questioning his relationship with Jackson. Virgil might be getting Worried as fight night gets closer.

Will it change anything? Maybe, maybe not, but the fact that it's already a distraction, a little chip at the confidence, means that it was an effective psychological tactic.
This isn't some back n' forth b.s. gossip from some sleazy reality show on some remote cable channel on TV. Hunter sees himself as some seer or zen master or something. He's a joke with all that b.s. I'll believe JDJ over Hunter and his fairy tale concept of reality... ANY day.

Bingo. Playing Jedi mind tricks on Team kovalev. Getting that mental edge.
