Comments Thread For: However You Feel, Boxing Needs More Men Like Andre Ward

By Keith Idec - You name it, Andre Ward seemingly is too something for some people. However you feel about the undefeated former super middleweight champion, though, know this there couldn't be too many Andre Wards in boxing...

I hope that after he retires, more people will appreciate just how good Andre Ward has been and the way he has faced the absolute best he can. And I would hope that regardless of how you feel about him as a fighter, all the fans who said "Well why doesn't he move up and fight Kovalev?" will now give him credit for doing so. Because many of those fans did not think he would.

Ward hate really bothers me. I turned against him too during his lawsuits, but they're over and he's fighting one of the best fights in years now. He's a highly skilled, smart, and humble fighter who has fought some of the best competition in boxing during his career. Win or lose, I hope boxing fans can start respecting Andre Ward again, because boxing absolutely needs more Andre Wards around.

Yup. I don't know if the Ward hate bothers me per se...but I definitely don't understand it. I don't understand it at all.

You mean like Kovalev. Always conceding because he wants to make fights happen, actually one of the saddest stories when you see what he's come from and how only until recently has he been making any real money having to make less than challengers while he was the champ, all that and he's still not an attraction. Ward is getting 5 mil. got 2 mil vs Paul Smith etc, he wouldn't be here without all that money and turf advantages.

Not hating on him though, Ward is much more warranted to a 5 mil payday vs Kovalev than Saunders who's asking the same to fight Golovkin while having a worse resume than frickin Golovkin. I think Andre Ward is lucky that no one fears him, or rather having confident guys like Froch, Kessler and Kovalev around him.

Win, lose, or draw, this is going to be a good fight. It's going to have its up and downs, and even a few turn arounds. May the best man win.

Only criticism I ever had for ward was too many tune ups.
The story with Ward so far is, he's too good.
Both fighters deserve respect win lose or draw for facing the best in their division.
The back story of Ward made me more of a fan. The adversity he's dealt with yet remains a true gent and decent fella...what's not to like or respect

So wait a minute? If boxing couldn't have enough fighters who were too boring and too inactive?

Boxing needs KOs and aggression - OFTEN - otherwise there is no 'show'.

How big is amateur boxing as a spectator sport?

... "However You Feel, Boxing Needs More Men Like Andre Ward" ...

... since he came back, Ward is made about $10 million in 4 fights... (3 tune ups and Kovalev)... Not that bad, not that bad...

Agree with most of your post except the bolded. Most hardcore fans can respect his skills but he is not a boxer most casuals are going to warm too. What boxing needs is a mix up of styles as it currently has now but ... more than anything boxing needs more activity. So many boxers are throwing away potential greatness by being inactive too much in their primes - Rigo, Andrade, Eubank, Mikey garcia
