Shouldn't Brook take 8 months away from boxing?

Remember Margarito broke his and fought the distance, really ****** decision in hindsight.Comment

It would be prudent for Brook to protect that eye for at least 6 months. This is assuming he had excellent rigid internal fixation of the fracture. If he "takes a shot" (literally and figuratively) in that area too early he's at risk for a nonunion or worse avascular necrosis of the fracture fragment. Coming back too early could be career ending and certainly wouldn't be worth the risk.Comment

An adult broken leg can be healed in 8 weeks; in what world does an eye socket take 4 times that?
The injury happened mid-September; even if you hold things to the timeline to heal a broken leg (my guess is that an eye socket is quicker to heal, especially with surgery), the eye should logically be healed up by Thanksgiving. An eight-week camp, after spending the holidays with his family, and Brook is likely physically ready to fight by the end of February.
The IBF gave Kell Brook a medical extension October 28th, Kell Brook and Errol Spence Jr have 30 days to negotiate the fight as of December 28th, and my guess is that the actual fight has to be staged by March 28th (IBF rules aren't clear on the matter).Comment

How many months a guy needs from an injury is a debatable topic in many cases & I've heard all sorts of facts & theories on that, but for sure it seems like Brook rushing into the ring too soon vs ANYONE is probably a decision that COULD affect his career & perhaps even his health negatively. And I say this as a Spence fan & a guy who thinks Spence will beat Brook, but reality is reality. There is also the reality that this sort of injury can have lasting negative affects in ones life & career in the ring (or cage).
Brook has basically already had two months to simply worry about keeping fit (without the need to keep on weight, I'm fairly certain that he's worked off weight already), and he'd then be looking at another 3 months to worry about how he's gonna deal with getting down to the weight again.
5-6 months would seem to work just fine.Comment
