    Ward will raise their profile.

In a week, they will manage the best fighter on the planet.

I think you need to understand the dynamics of the sport and how the back-end works.

Roc Nation will be a very attractive prospect for younger fighters who can see what they did for Ward's career, and for Cotto's career..... also, there is the Jay-Z connection with the fans.

I wouldn't worry about their - or anyone else's - money if I was you..... they will be fine..... as will PBC, etc.

        1) It's not Roc Nation's event; Main Events is the lead promoter for the event, Main Events have the agreement with MGM Resorts, Main Events has the relationship with HBO, etc.

2)Roc Nation, on a fight that they don't control the revenues for, is deeply unlikely to risk money that they don't already have in hand; if Ward's guarantee truly is $5m, there's no doubt in my mind that that figures was drawn from the share that Main Events is already contracted to pay Roc Nation to begin with.

The boxing business has changed, and has been changing for years now; the parties that continue to stick to the old way will eventually fade out. The promoters that adapt (following the Schaefer/Hearn model, where the "fighter owns the show") will continue on.

No idea what Main Events is doing but, in a perfect world, this would be "Kovalev's show"; Main Events puts up the money/terms needed to lock down the fight, Main Events does everything they can to max out the revenues for the fight, and then, at the end of the day, Kovalev and Main Events (with RNS getting their share of any upside that they're entitled to) split whatever is left between themselves.

Being on the hook for $7m (and sharing anything beyond the costs with her fighter) versus being on the hook for $13m (and keeping anything beyond that in-house) is a matter of philosophy.

        • Here we have two of the top three fighters in the world and people are still trying to down play the worth of this fight. Ward/Kovalev is the best fight to be made in boxing behind GGG/Canelo. It just shows how most of these so call boxing fans AREN'T truly boxing fans. We've gotten so use to seeing mismatches, all of a sudden we have this great fight upon us & people brush it off as nothing big. Someone mentioned earlier, boxing fans are like whores, I would tend to agree! People just use message boards to argue lame points. This fight should do 700,000 PPV buys just from true boxing fans alone. By the end of 2016, boxing has given the public three fights where both fighters were the best in there respective division. (1vs2) = (Crawford/Postol), (Kovalev/Ward) & (Lomo/Walters). There's a lot of people who claim to they want to see the best face each other but get more excited about mismatches. PBC has Garcia/Vargas tonight, there's something for you so call boxing fans to get excited about!

          • One thing is for certain: Andre Ward with his clutching, clamping, grabbing, holding and headbutting isn't worth the money he's receiving.

All he does is spoil and use illegal tactics.

            • Michael Yormark (Roc Nation Executive) tells RingTV that he anticipates Kovalev-Ward to be the biggest PPV of the year, but in order for that to happen the fight would have eclipse the 600,000 buy mark posted by the Canelo-Khan fight in May.

Roc Nation surely has high expectations. More than 600k PPV? Let's see..

How does this lose money if it does 1/3 of that in buys? Even if both guys pulled 5 mill it would still be a much smaller amount, proportionally.
I was thinking the same thing.

With Andre Ward being 32 years (and already seeing his own exit in due time), what's stopping Showtime from going to Roc Nation Sports, signing a longterm deal to air Andre Ward's fights (the monetary terms are likely to be different, but Showtime/CBS did just play out a 6-fight guaranteed deal with Floyd Mayweather) and feature fights from RNS?

With Stevenson already being affiliated with Showtime, putting the light heavyweight full unification event on PPV wouldn't be an issue.
Yeah, because Al Haymon is gonna bail out Roc Nation from the awful contract they have with Ward
Are you aware of the Jay-Z/Haymon beef?

Even if they work out a deal, then Ward still exists in a short bubble. Kovalev-tuneup-Stevenson-can never get payed comparatevely again so he retires-death.

Business is business (beyond that Jay-Z and Haymon have no actual beef; Beyonce sued her father and Haymon, over her father and Haymon having some kind of side deal, and that got settled); with Roc Nation having a viable business in their own right, Haymon having a viable business in his own right, and Showtime, and Showtime being invested in boxing, the deal is there for everyone to sit down and to be made.

Ward-Stevenson is a PPV fight (in the US and Canada), and then Haymon is affiliated to at least 4-5 other current light heavyweights that are about in position for title shots.

If Showtime ends up in the Andre Ward business (with the scenario of Ward having three belts around his waist and the full unification of the 175lb division possibly on their network, a 6-fight deal $15m guarantee deal from Showtime wold make sense for everyone), Haymon ends up in the Andre Ward business as well (Adonis Stevenson, Matchroom Sport's Nathan Cleverly, Star Boxing's Joe Smith Jr, Artur Beterbiev, Marcus Browne, and Radivoje Kalajdzic are all gonna be looking for major opportunities at 175lb).

Roc Nation is in the Andre Ward business; at 32 years of age, barring any other injury setbacks, Andre Ward has another 7-9 fights (assuming 3 fights per year), or maybe more, before he's down to relying solely on his wits; MGM Resorts is likely to be highly interested in Ward's biggest fights of the bunch, and Roc Nation can take the unified 175lb champion to Barclays Center, or fight him out of Oracle Arena, and do strong business.

                    • At $70 per ticket..... 250k PPV buys = 17.5mil

                      what is a likely gate, 5mil ?

                      I have no idea..... ?

isn't that like..... 20mil EASY, in revenue ?

45% to the network, leaving 12mil in purses ?

that looks about right to me, unless you are unhappy with the network taking 45%?

seriously, who could accept the fact that the network will take 45%?..... every single one of those network execs should be repeatedly punched in the face, just to remind them what kind of business they are involved with
