And yes, popularity matters.
GGG is a popular fighter who dominates his division and is still undefeated.
Just because he doesn't have ATG's on that resume of dominating the MW division doesn't mean he won't get in.
Look at the cans Wlad has dominated til Fury took his soul. Wlad will also get in.
who GGG faces from here on out will obviously increase his status, and if he loses badly might decrease his status, but he doesn't "need" a canelo fight or a ward fight to "make it", people thinking that his legacy depends on those fights are truly ignorant because it's not true.
