They talk sense based on the natural fighting weight of the potential opponents. Catch-weights are too often used to disadvantage one fighter vs the other (eg Cotto v Geale) by the fighter with the greater negotiating power.
At the end of the day it has to be a fair fight - every catch-weight negotiation is different and it will never be that simple to say there is inconsistency as they are all different situations.
I don't see GGG looking to gain advantage in any of the weight-gain situations, simply looking for a fair fight, eg
v Ward. Ward was naturally big at 168 at the time, and leaning towards being bigger than 168 (so now he's at 175). 168 is big for GGG, so to go up and take on the best-in-class at 168 would have been a bad move.
v Canelo. Canelo is naturally 160+ anyway but uses his age to be able to fight at lower weights. Fair fight with GGG would be 160...nothing less.
v Mayweather. 154 is a big weight for Mayweather and he doesn't hit hard, a weakened Golovkin could potentially walk through anything Mayweather threw and just a question of whether he could get past the defence over the 12. Financially it made sense, and once again, a fair fight.
I see all the negotiations so far as making perfect sense - no inconsistencies at all.Comment

Golovkin won't move down to 155lbs to fight Canelo? But he's willing to move down in weight to fight Pacquiao or Mayweather?
This is embarrassing...to the sport...to the fans.
These guys need to stop making these leaps up in weight and stop blowing guys up to make a fight.
This **** is getting out of control.Comment

quack!
There's a lot more money with pac/may then there is with Canelita.. plus why would he move down for a guy who's rehydrates to bigger size fighting at 54 then GGG does fighting at 60? Don't be naive bro! It's always gonna be called ducking... not the first fighters to do it, won't be the last..Comment

2010 Manny Pacquiao would have beaten the current Golovkin. Current GGG KO Pacquiao in 8th rounds.Comment
