Are broad, wide shoulders important in boxing?

Can someone with narrow shoulders beat up someone with big, pronounced shoulders? I remember George Foreman saying during a commentary that you can't just rush at a man with wide giant shoulders. Is this really the case?

Hearns, P.Williams, Margarito, Cotto etc etc don't really have big shoulders.
