What Fight Made Your Favorite Fighter an ATG?

My favorite fighter being Roberto Duran, I go with the first Sugar Ray Leonard fight. The brawl in Montreal cemented his legacy. I think he would have been ATG material with what he did at lightweight, but that fight put him over the top.

For Leonard himself, I'd say the first Tommy Hearns fight cemented his place.

I mean, my favorites ever are Marciano/ODLH/Locche, and two of those were before my time.

I will go with the only one I got to see in person, which is ODLH - to me, beating prime/hungry lion Sweet Pea made him a lock for ATGness.

For Marciano I would say Ezzard Charles, and for Locche I would say Fuji, just off the top, but I could change both of those responses with some critical thought.

Completely agree with Duran. Hearns ko of Duran is as epic a ko as any. And Hagler Hearns is called "The War" for a reason. Manny destroying Oscar was pretty special.

Those are the kinds of sentiments I detest from fanboys. I could throw a stone and hit a random win on Manny's resume better than that one. The Oscar name is big. The version of Oscar he fought would lose to much lesser fighters. Pac deserves zero credit for that win.

Margarito when he beat the SHlT out of Cotto. Cotto was on his knees begging for mercy. After that he switched his name from Miguel to Kneeguel and Margarito became his daddy. All the Puerto Ricans went on a hiatus and bow down to every mexican they see.

It was a zombie version of Oscar but that fight was supposed to be a glorified execution. Pacquiao went from boxing superstar to a household name because of that victory. You can look at Pacquiao's career in two stages, pre and post Oscar. His second fight with Marquez was considered a smash hit because it did 400k. After Oscar getting less than a million was considered a bust. It may not be his best victory but it's arguably his most important in a lot of respects.

Yea, I know. Just felt like throwing some bait in there. I still consider it a great win though, just like beating a past prime B-Hop, age doesn't affect their skillset, their strong suits, their styles age well.
