Lets Talk About The Canelo/Golovkin Situation

Golovkin said a while back that GBP were going to offer him 2 million dollars so they can avoid him, but now they offered him 10 million, I thought he was fighter not business man, so what's going on, the fight is being offered at 160 also, I don't care if you like Golovkin or not he should accept the offer and fight because now it's him ducking, and no this isn't Pacquaio/Mayweather situation Pacquaio already sold 1M PPV fights before he was offered the 40 million and he turned it down

First off, 'ducking ' is a massively overused term and seems to mean whatever people want it to mean, but since some GGG fans are so fond of it I can't really criticise people for throwing it back in their faces. For me the only real time to use it legitimately is in the case of avoiding mandos - and not even always then.

Secondly, the proposed fight date is almost a year away. Is there something wrong with Golovkin trying to get a better deal? Should he not try to get the best payday he can for any fight, just like any other fighter would?

Ultimately though, if GBP proves intractable then IMO GGG should take the offer (or call their bluff if that's your take). Time's a wasting on his career and there ain't any other comparable paydays out there. That's just me however, how Golovkin chooses to manage his career is entirely his own business - I ain't the one gotta put his boy through college.

Well, yeah. But then some of the responsibility for that falls on GGG too. What can be said is that there's part just bad luck there. Golovkin chose Universum first and started at MW cos that seemed to be the best option at the time in Europe - well.... it didn't work out so well. Then in trying to reinvent his career in the US he probably would have been better to go with an established US promoter (although Arum at least acknowledged turning him down), better connections would have helped for one, but simply the lack of depth in K2s stable also means that 'in house' fights are out of the question and there's little real incentive for other promoters to build lasting business relations with K2, they can't go into reciprocals or build decent cards by themselves - it's kinda a one shot deal. Pretty much of necessity Golovkin will have to compromise significantly to get 'big fights' but at this stage he ain't likely to ever become some kinda major PPV attraction, so it ain't a matter of bending for one big fight, he's just gonna have to do it over and over I think. Sucks for him, but it is what it is.

Knowing Abel...and I guess Loeffler, who knows what's in those contracts. A similar scenario is "advisor" Koncz, the snake, to Pacquiao's dumbass..

I think Golovkin takes for granted his roadmap. I "just want the belts" is either scripted or Gennady is playing the fool... Gennady is scared of North.

IDK - I think the 'road map' probably makes sense, or seemed to make sense - the idea that if he could get all the belts the 'big fights' would just come, it'd essentially put Mw on stranglehold. Problem is, as shown by Canelo, it just doesn't work like that. Guys who bring in big money always have plenty of other options available.

Whether or not he's 'scared' of North I don't know. The exploratory negotiations with Froch and Jr (lol) would tend to suggest he'd be willing but maybe he would prefer to stick with the 'road map' unless there's real money on offer. Certainly my preference would have been for him to move to 168 after beating Murray (Martin's no great shakes in my book, but was the last connection to the 'old guard' at 160) at which point I was basically satisfied that there were no real challenges left at MW. That said, at the time the top dogs at 168 were largely Haymon guys and there were still major doubts about about cross promotional fights - might be they were unwilling to find themselves in the same bind.

The Chavez Jr. matchup was all fake publicity most likely created and started by Abel. When did Chavez Jr. ever have a belt at 168? If thr point is milking Chavez jr.'s fame for exposure then it automatically shows how K2 and Abel have been caught up in their own lie. Alvarez has surpassed Chavez Jr. wIth Mexican fans. If Gennady is the boogieman, and let's say technically his skills are better than the phrase "154-168 is easy" or "nobody at 154-168 can stand in the ring against Golovkin" then he shouldve taken a catch weight between 155 to 160. Abel and Loeffler completely shut down the idea for everything they stated when the mando was set by the WBC. They gave the perception that only titlte bouts should sanctioned for the limit and that Alvarez is a "diva."

Abel Sanchez then as of late said he "made" Kovalev. THe Golovkin charade will only go for so long... karma works out

Sometimes it feels like it's worth talking with you. Other times, not so much.

"The best rating on HBO so far in 2016 was for an absolute mismatch, with the 1.325 million who watched Gennady Golovkin face Dominic Wade." -David Greisman (forwarded by Loeffler over the phone when talking to Oscar about splits)
