Why is Anthony Joshua so over-hyped?

Just because he has a bodybuilders physique and has knocked out 17 nobodies? Frank Bruno had the same record after 17 fights.

Olympic gold (gifted it) medalist, which always helps kickstart someones career in the UK. Then he has Hearn and more importantly Sky backing him. Nearly the entire country watches Sky Sports News for their sports news, especially football, but they're watching anyway so when you get the likes of Sky marketing you that much and telling everyone how great you are, a lot of people who don't even understand boxing buy into it. As the old saying goes "If you through enough ****, some will stick".

The truth is, most of the people that watch him don't know a lot about boxing. It doesn't really matter who he fights, they don't know their Luis Ortiz's from their Domonic Breazeale's. Sky will sell the fight like the bum opponents are good and people buy it. His fights have become an event now, a lot of celebrities are turning up just to be there, even though they have no interest in boxing.

Also, he looks like a body builder so his largely uneducated fanbase automatically thinks it makes him great. It's many things really. He's basically a marketing dream. Gold medalist, looks how he does and now a paper champion.

I think most people who follow the sport clearly know that he's over hyped as it stands as he hasn't beaten anybody. He's already got a huge "casual" fanbase though, and that's where the real money is.

He's big, has power and is a gold medal winner. He has the potential to be a great fighter. I think they rushed him to a title, now he has an obligation to fight the top fighters and i don't think he's ready.

He's a gold medalist, he's big, he's from a country that loves its boxing and fights in the most popular division.

            He should be hyped!

I would agree except we already had a champion with the potential to be great; Tyson Fury, and the media destroyed him. Because they didn't want a gypsy as champion? Because he didn't have an athletic looking body?

Just to clarify; I'm not a gypsy just in case you think I'm being biased.

Frank Bruno in 17 fights fought Mike Jameson a guy who wouldn't defeat Martin or probably Kevin Johnson .Joshua already has a belt and is favored over everyone because he has speed ,power and the abilities to throw perfectly timed punches and finish his opponent when they are hurt ,theres nothing hype about it.for a 6'6 240 plus guy who has the ability to do all that .

Because he said ****** shit and took steroids and drugs. Fury has nobody but himself to blame.

I disagree. Fury IMO hurt himself with his actions. Plus most objective fans saw the Fury/Klitschko fight as a boring affair where Fury didn't really win the title as much as Klitschko lost the title. Didn't see Fury's potential to be more than a lucky champion.
