If Vargas pulls it off then Manny needs to retire and be a senator.

interesting post, you mentioned 3 terrific fighters there

I rate Lomachenko, he is an outstanding talent, but there is too much size difference between those guys. It's not like Loma would be facing a shot fighter or a scrub. Pac hasn't faded like a lot of people have become accustomed to saying, I think Pac would monster him and blaze him up.

Spence I rate as well, that would be a very physical fight..... I just think that it is a little too soon for him..... Pac has a LOT of experience, and with Spence's style I'm not sure if he would offer a lot that Pac hasn't seen before and dealt with already..... possibly, but I would like to see more from Spence in his next 2-3 fights.

Pacquiao/Crawford would be a great fight, not sure how that would unfold..... Crawford is not hugely experienced, but he has some great skills and a good temperament, he would give Pac different looks and a ton of problems..... great fight.

Personally, I think the only fighters from 140-147 that can trouble Pac are guys who could catch him and really hurt him..... Brook, Thurman, Garcia (and possibly Spence)..... and I would throw Crawford in there because he is really the only guy I could see winning a decision.

I would favor Pac over the welters, and I would HEAVILY favor Pac in 2 of those fights..... but yea, not sure how a Crawford fight would unfold. Pac/Crawford would be great.

Pac UD12 Vargas, 9-3/8-4, something like that..... with Vargas competing well and edging some of the early rounds.

Just hit play, and drink it in, man.

One of the greatest to lace them up, openly saying essentially what you just said.

LOL fair enough good find & I'm sure there are many more good to great fighters saying such a thing more or less.

Thats my fault in my haste to make a post in that I didn't better define what I'm saying in that its the case ~95% of the time or more & its a obvious generalization as nothing is 100% true in discussions of the topic at hand.

My main point is lying to yourself (or fans & pundits) in a competitive environment, like sports, is sometimes the short &/or long term more positive way to deal with a loss or bad day when you performed to your best yet came up short. I firmly believe that you can never be the best in anything if you don't first believe you are capable of being the best despite ample evidence that suggests otherwise that is all around you often times. A little delusion in a competitive world doesn't hurt basically.

I know a lot of people like to think about these sorts of excuses as exactly that...excuses & nothing more. Myself I see them as more defense mechanisms to help keep the ego & confidence up as needed in a brutal unforgiving environment that is often trying to chew you up & spit you out.

I agree IF the delusion is at least reasonable. Khan's loss to Canelo, for example. Weight is a reasonable excuse because it's nowhere near his natural weight class. Despite that, he was still outboxing Canelo half the time.

But jokes like Manny? Nearly every big fight he lost or should have lost, he made excuses. He did it after Morales I (gloves), he did it after Marquez III (leg cramps) and he did it against TBE (shoulder).

LOL yea no argument from me that Khan's level of self delusion is working on a higher level than most. That said & as you mention he did quite well I thought (despite that not being shown on the scorecards) & if he did something wrong I think there is a solid argument it wasn't the weight difference as much as Khan got too comfortable, too immobile...too soon in his fight with Canelo cuz he was still looking good, til he wasn't. Point taken all the same cuz maybe that same moment just ends up taking place in the 9th or 10th round if Khan hadn't gotten unfocused sooner.

See & here I'd just say Manny is the quintessential boxer after a L with this. The main issue might be that Manny is one of these fighters who have a certain level of love & hate thus everything he does is seen as better or worse, depending on what side you're on cuz of that love & hate.

Personally I don't see much if anything gained by saying "Yep I lost...so & so was just a better man tonight" or do what Mike Tyson gracefully & largely unexpectedly did for most if not all his loses (he did kinda embarrass himself in the days after the Douglas lost, probably due to Don King's influence, as I recall it, but I believe his night of remarks were much more humble).

Sure you might gain a fan or two for being the humble or newly humanized, less perfect defeated fighter, but on a personal level, in your own head, I think it can grow seeds of doubt in your own capabilities that can have lasting adverse effects with your confidence, ego & superiority which are underrated aspects of being an elite level competitor. I just think you gotta think you are better than others, at very least in your chosen competitive field, regardless of if you share it with the world or not & when you actually do lose its something that often comes out to defend your position as "still the best" despite what just happened.
