Giving the green light on a proposed match-up is not the same as making that match, or preventing that match from being made if the fighters and promoters want it.

HBO execs are not ******. They know that a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, even if they thought GGG/Canelo would be twice as big in a years time than it is now.

What if Canelo can't hack it at 160 and loses to, eg, Lemieux or BJS?

What if 34 yo GGG really is on the decline, as so many people here claim, and loses his titles before the fight with Canelo can be made?

That's the biggest fight in boxing, financially, blown, and HBO would miss out on all that revenue. GGG vs Canelo, last Sept, would have been a monster fight for HBO. You have to be nuts to think it was them who prevented it from happening.

I didn't say HBO are preventing it but they certainly aren't pushing for it atall.... they are for both guys to fight other people especially Canelo. We all know Golovkin will sign once the terms are fair so if HBO really wants that fight they can definitely try to mediate proceedings.

Canelo's last fight did well at the gate, but HBO wouldn't get any of the gate money. The PPV sales were only half what Canelo got vs Khan, and Khan was a terrible match-up for him.
