Golovkin should say: "I'll take the ten million flat fee if Canelo fights me next. No in between fights, or any other bull*****. Make it guaranteed as his next fight and I'll take it. If not, let's do a % split, or a winner takes all."

Golovkin should just take the 10 million...

Golovkin needs to take the money. He gets to knock out Canelo and become a super star. What more does he need? Canelo is practically giving himself to GGG on a silver platter.
Fighters get paid too much as it is. Arguello and Pryor barely made 3 million COMBINED for their first fight and they were both far more exciting than Canelo and GGG will ever be.

Gennady and co. need to play chess with this shìt, not checkers.
He takes the 10 mil (as opposed to what, 12, 15 tops?) and the increase in his purses over the next few years will make up the difference and then some. Especially if Canelo wants a rematch.
If he turns down the offer, Saul has his escape route, and can then blame Golovkin for the fight falling through. Canelo keeps earning top dollar from the Mexican fan base (Cotto rematch, Lemieux, whoever), and Golovkin will continue to make the same money he's been making, which will be far less than the 10 mil plus what he can demand for future fights due to his increased value from knocking out the ginger on a big PPV.
There's a time and a place to hold out for more money, but in this situation the smart play is to take the flat fee and then enjoy calling the shots for the next few years.
And of course we can't forget that father time is creeping up on Gennady, so it's make or break with this shìt.

Canelo hasn't got an escape route, unless he can beat BJS first. But that looks highly unlikely, as he's out until May and Oscar will more than likely give him a much easier opponent in his first fight at the weight.
If GG can fight and beat Jacobs and BJS, he'd take them out of the equation and hold every belt in the MW division.
Canelo could buy time by fighting someone like Brook, but other than that or a Cotto rematch, he would have nowhere to go with unbearable pressure upon his shoulders.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 10-30-2016, 08:12 PM.

GGG is 34..never had a meaningful fight and has none on the horizon..he needs to take the money if he wants the fight because Canelo literally never has to fight him

GGG as defending MW champion had to travel to the backyard of a WW champion, Canelo even as the challenger came out second to Liam Smith, says it all. Then of course we can get in to the nitty gritty of PPV sales.

He's negotiating for Jacobs and he can target BJS afterwards. Then he could target the likes of Eubank, and he also has the option of moving up to SMW at some point, to target guys like DeGale, Smith, Groves and Ramirez.
What options does Canelo have? He had to strip naked to make weight for Smith, so his JMW days are over. And he's obviously not going to fight beyond MW. So unless he gets to BJS first, who else is he going to fight? You're looking at a CW against the likes of Brook, and then GG's leftovers.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 10-30-2016, 09:41 PM.

Forget Manny. It's completely unrealistic.
Cotto:
Would anybody care that much about a Cotto rematch?
Lemieux:
Nobody would care about Lemieux. GG has already beaten him.
Saunders:
Saunders would be a great fight, but that would only be relevant if he hadn't already lost to GG.
Jacobs:
As above.
Lara:
Would anyone be that interested? Will Lara move up to MW?
Eubank:
That could be a great fight.
All things considered, he hasn't got a lot of great options. They certainly aren't as good as GG's.
